Archery

Is anyone into Archery? If so, what brand of bows are good but not expensive? I used to do archery when I was younger but lost interest. Now I'm interested again but don't want to shell out a lot of money for a bow. I don't want a crossbow. That's too easy. I want a good ol' bow you use your fingers like the olden days except I won't kill any animals. Might shoot DH in the ass if he doesn't behave. LOL

Thanks in advance!

I am "into" archery. I teach Bowhunter safety as well as hunt with my bow.

I would suggest a "compound bow". With the cams and pulleys you can get a bow that developes 50lbs of force with a hold and aim tension of 32lbs. There are mechanical releases, a wrist strap device that holds the string until you pull the "trigger". All these things make for better accuracy, whether you intend to hunt or not.

It's tempting to go to Walmart and buy one off the shelf but I wouldn't until you learn more about the equipment. Go to a pro-shop, get fitted, they may have a good 2nd hand bow to sell you.

My favorite bow is made by PSE, both my children have their own PSE bows as well.

I blew that math and discovered it after the edit time expired.

50 lbs of force with a hold and aim tension of 28lbs
