Anyone use Cybex Arc Trainer?

I am having one delivered today. I am excited about it, but not as much as I should be; I need to be sure it will work me hard and further tone me up. I wanted a Stairmaster stepmill (would have to be used though b/c of price) and a folding treadmill (was looking at Pacemaster Gold), and was only considering the arc trainer. However, this is supposed to be better on my knees and hips, and much lower maintenance. I love the stepmill, and would use the treadmill for the incline only - including the programs. So, do I trust that the arc trainer will hit the areas that these other two machines will? The arms move on it as well so at a high resistance, I could get some arm work in (although I'm not used to holding on to machines), and supposedly core work too. I want the butt workout of the stepmill and incline on the treadmill, the quad and hamstring workout of both right down to the calves. Somebody - help!! The guy at the store assures me this is the best option, and they sell stepmills and treadmills too. Thanks in advance. I probably sound like a spoiled brat... I want it all... but I promise that is not the case! I just do not want to miss the gym and it is too hot here to run stairs and walk the track.

I have used the Arc Trainer and find it to be an excellent workout. I am sure you will be very happy.

Every Sunday at the gym. It is hands down my very favorite cardio machine & I'm just green w/envy that you have your very own! I've found that it definitely works the butt & quads pretty well, possibly even more so than the step mill, especially given that you have a variety of resistance programs on it.

Enjoy!

I use it a lot at the Y when I'm lucky enough to get one - they are always in use. I feel like I get an excellent workout on it and would love to have my own!

Awwwww, thanks for the replies. I feel better. I know I like using them (arc trainers) but the last two gyms I have belonged to did not have them and I got addicted to the stepmill and treadmill on the incline. My gym membership is gone now in favor of building up a home gym. I am telling myself to have fun doing step aerobics to Cathe and let that replace the stepmill and as long as my glutes/hamstrings get it good on this (b/c I know quads won't be an issue), then I need to snap out of it and have faith in the machine's diversity with incline, resistance, and optional upper body work! (And be sure I work my tail off at work to pay for it!) :)

Yes!!! I have an Arc Trainer at home and I LOVE LOVE IT!!! You can do so many things on it...uphill, running, hills, etc. I too like the step mill and wish I could own one of those, but I don't have the ceiling :) You will get a really great workout on this...have fun.\

Oh you lucky girl!!!

I love the Arc.. its absolutely my favorite cardio machine. The gym I go to has them, and I use it anywhere from 1-3x/week depending on my cardio schedule that week.

Personally I think it is a much better leg workout than a stairmill, elliptical or stepper. You can get a great range of motion to hit more of your leg muscles, than any of the previously mentioned machines.

You'll have to give us a review once you've used it a few times.. I wouldn't be surprised if you ended up REALLY liking it.

Take care, Lynn M.
