Anyone try Barry's Bootcamp yet?

Ok Remember this is just my opinion.
I didn't like the set
Didn't like Barry
The music isn't that good
The exercise are basic moves nothing new or really different.
I bought this because it was billed as one of the Best workouts.
Maybe I am just spoiled by Cathe's style.
I like the way Cathe moves to the music.
I will probably end up selling these.
I had really high expectations I thought it was going to be better than it is. In a nut shell it is kind of boring.
Check out the ya ya's and video fitness there are full reviews.

Now, I have the complete opposite opinion of Susan:)

I LOVE the music.
Yes, the set is dark, but it's a bootcamp. They are all wearing black, on a black step, in a small studio. To me, it has the bootcamp feel. I like the male instructors. It's a nice change. Not Cathe by any stretch, but a nice change, and a great addition to my cathe collection.

The cardio section has very basic moves, but looks grueling.
I can see my husband doing these with me. He couldn't do Cathe's choreography. I plan to repeat the cardio as I grow stronger or when I want longer sessions.

I haven't tried any of the workouts yet, I'm doing legs this morning. I've watched 2 of my dvd's, and I am very excited about them.
I doing Cathe's S&H right now, and that music is driving me crazy! It sounds like James Bond music.

I just posted at VF about this. This is just based on previewing all the workouts.
If I had seen it before ordering, I probably wouldn't have ordered.
Barry was annoying at first, but I got used to him. The other instructors I didn't like, especially a woman who drones on incessantly "left...right...left....right....left...right" (and not in a 'bootcampy" way).
The warm-ups are rather intense, and several workouts stretch immediately, without waiting for a rise in body temperature.
The chest workout has a very dangerous-looking push-up with one hand on a 12"! step, and the other on the floor. Just watching the instructor do it made me cringe and worry about the health and safety of his shoulder!
Just from previewing, I'd give it a "B" (some workouts on the low end, the best on the high end).
I think it actually might be better when I do it.
As for the music: it was okay,, but they don't follow the beat, so why have it so you hear the beat well? I think I'll just put on my own music (luckily, that is an option) and try to not follow any beat but that of my own drummer!

I don't like them at all and will be selling them ASAP. I found the set dark and squished (they're really in a gym, using part of the floor behind a bunch of treadmills) and some of the moves a little extreme. I think the weight work looks as if it could be effective, but I find the presentation dull and the instructor personalities a little lacking for on-camera work. Very disappointing. However, some people over on the Ya's seem to really like them.

Hi Marie,
I feel the same I glad I am not the only one. Barry seems weird too. I fell for this because it was suppose to be the best out there.

Waiting for my new Cathe
which I know I will love.

I agree that yes, Barry is a little weird, but then so am I. He's a recovering drug addict and so am I!! That's one of the reason's I bought them. I wanted to support him and I knew they'd be tough if he was recovering....cuz I know how tough I am on myself. ..........so I give him a break!! I'm getting used to him. I've always liked weird people anyway. Guess it takes one to know one. LOL. I didn't expect a lot of the Cathe crew to like these. Some people on here are extremely picky. I tend to like a lot of variety and it takes a lot to grate on my nerves. I will probably listen to my own music once I learn this, as the music wasn't as exciting as I thought it'd be. I don't mind the set at all or the instructors. It never crossed my mind that they are boring. I did 50 minutes of the non-treadmill cardio the other day and I'll admit it was a bit tough to stick to it for that long. I think I'll use them as they are with short aerobic sessions and weights and save other stuff for longer aerobics.

Lora, kudos to you! I have someone very close to me who is recovering and I know how hard it is to beat this addiction. I had no idea that Barry is a recovering addict, so I'm really glad that I purchased this set.

The workouts in this set are true bootcamp workouts. There's no fancy set, no fancy clothing, just a set of workouts that are tough, much tougher than what they appear to be by just sitting and watching the workouts.

I'm a diehard P90X gal, and I'm thrilled with this set. Yes, they're definitely not something that Cathe would put out, but they are solid workouts.

Even though these workouts were filmed in his gym, and the space is tight, the production value is very good. The picture is crystal clear. Plus, I think the music is pretty darn good.

For anyone who is dying for more workouts that utilize your cardio machines, I think you'll be happy having a set that utilizes your cardio machines.

I agree. I had no idea Barry was a recovering addict.
I'm a fan of hip hop/club music, so I LOVE the music. I have teenagers in the house, so the music is something I hear daily.
I like the set too. It gives me the feeling I'm in the gym with them. I have a very tight workout space too!
Believe me, if they open a bootcamp gym in my area, I would be there! I know they're opening one in other states.
I want a Barry Bootcamp camisole!!!!!!

I did the leg workout yesterday and felt it right away. I'm sore, sore, sore today (I just finished 6 weeks of GS legs without having to rest or pause the tape).
The power squats and jumping jacks at the end of Barry's leg workout are extremely difficult after all the butt work. Nadia says right left- right left too much, but I have no problem using my selective hearing. Something I learned as a child:)
I love the loud music. I prefer it.

I will modify several moves for some of the workouts. I do that with my Cathe tapes too- no biggie.

I feel like I got my money's worth. I wasn't expecting a Cathe style workout, but I was hoping for something close to the same intensity. I feel Barry's Bootcamp offers that for me. Yesterday's leg day was NOT easy. I didn't walk away feeling like I could have done more. I HATE that feeling!

I just finished Arms and Abs with Barry. I loved this workout. This was the most fun I've had working out in a long time. I actually like Barry the best out of the instructors now that I've done his DVD. I can see why it's BARRY's Bootcamp. I love him. He's relentless and has this mad scientist sort of laugh cuz he's lovin' torturing everyone. He comes across very sincere, but drill sargeanty at the same time (if that makes any sense). I guess I really do like weird people. He's got a great motivating personality. I loved the torture. I actually had to stop a moment here and there and one of my biggest pet peeves is when an instructor takes too much time explaining or between exercises. He was extremely fast with his instructions and got down to business. When we switched arms, he always said "NOT A BREAK PEOPLE". I loved it. I was like, yeah....c'mon!!!I even liked the ab segment. You used a dumbbell and did jackknives. I felt it good in my abs (I never feel it in my abs). He did a lot of static holds at the end of his weight movements and isometric holds at the end of the jacknives.....burn baby burn. Okay.....I'll quit now....just thought I'd share.

The one downside.....is that they literally go from all out cardio to zilch....nothing....no cooldown and no stretch. The cardio in this one was fun also. Lots of jumping jacks, plyolunges (plunges as he calls them), plyo lunges off of a higher step, hopping side to side off of the higher step (I used a lower one and my HR was jacked to 158), football runs, jumping squats off and on the step. Anyway ....after my Barry's aerobics the other day (I did 50 min), my legs were so sore, my butt was sore and my calves were sore.......I think they should really stretch you and cool you down after that...but now I just know I have to either do it on my own or break a Cathe out for the end.

I must admit, Barry is my favorite instructor. I like his demeanor. He's a little rough around the edges, but I think that is what makes him so great as a bootcamp instructor!

I did chest and abs last night. My chest is fried, but my abs....whoooaaaa! I can't move my torso without pain! He said we hit all areas of the ab, and he was NOT kidding!

My legs are still sore from legs/butt the other day.

Today, I'm doing shoulders/back with Joey.....he is some serious EYE CANDY:* :9 ;-) I think I'll enjoy the workout:7

The missing cool down doesn't bother me. That is where I usually stop all my dvd's. I prefer to do my own stretches after walking around my house for a cool down.

I must say, I am thoroughly enjoying these workouts. I want to rotate them with S&H for a while. Alternating Cathe's low reps with Barry's high reps.

I also did Arms and Abs today and enjoyed it immensely! It's just a nice change of pace. The only thing I don't like is on some of the exercises you don't know where you're at on the rep count but as I do it more, I'll make sure I'm balancing myself...and for the price I paid, it's not a big deal. These will be fun to do this week while I wait for my new Cathe's! After previewing all 5 workouts, I like the way the exercises are ordered and they had a few moves I've never done before. I also didn't have problems with the music or instructors; I guess I usually focus more on the workout and unless they are really bad it isn't an issue for me! I liked Barry!

Jo

Yes - I agree that these are making the wait for my Cathe's a little easier.

I'm pretty sore from Arms and Abs. Haven't been this sore in a while. I did those jacknives with an 8 pound dumbell and my abs are good and sore. My DH is sick of hearing me say how sore I am from these workouts. He keeps saying -- "you act like you've never worked out before". I'm just excited cuz ........ya'll know how we like to get sore.

I just did "Arms and Abs" today. A very quick, down-and-dirty workout, with emphasis on triceps.

I ended up lowering my weights from my first sets, and got to failure on two of the triceps sets. I have a feeling I'm going to be having some DOMS tomorrow!

I followed up with the first round of the cardio.

I like the workout, but I hate it when instructors put out workouts that are incomplete. I don't consider 1 minute of jumping jacks to be a good warm-up, and there is absolute no cool-down/stretch on the cardio workout. What's up with that?

Kathryn, my triceps hurt pretty badly for two days after that one! I am also disappointed in the lack of warm-ups and cool downs. But, I'm enjoying the workouts as a nice change of pace. Based on DOMS, they're working my muscles in a different way from what I've been doing. I'm sure I will forget all about Barry on Wednesday, when Cathe comes to my place!
