Anyone stayed in Playa del carmen

I am planning a trip to Playa del carmen, Mexico and trying to decide whether to do all inclusive or stay at one of the smaller hotels. Has anyone vacationed here and do you have any suggestions?

Funny you should say that because that is the place we decided on now for our all inclusive and we are also going from October 4th-12th. Two Catheites in the same place....wow...haha.

What a funny coincidence! We are going for a week, starting Oct 1st. We booked through Liberty Travel. They were having a special a couple months ago, but we really didn't benefit from it because we decided to book an ocean front room. I think the regular rooms were being offered at a pretty good deal, though. Who knows, with all the storms in that area this season, maybe things are less expensive now.

We are flying USAIR out of Philly, so we can pretty much assume late arrivals and lost luggage, lol!

That's even funnier because we are also flying out of Philadelphia but leaving on the 4th and we requested an ocean view as well. I am just waiting for the travel agent to call back to give me the same deal as expedia so we can book it already.

I live in Glen Mills which is in the southern part of Delaware County, close to the DE border. My brother owns a house in West Conshohocken, so I am a little familiar with that area.

Did you go on any of the Cathe road trips? I've been recovering from a back injury, so I didn't even attempt to sign up.

I took one of her kickboxing classes a few years back (right after KPC came out), but I've never been to the new gym.

I went there on my honeymoon in March. We stayed at the El Dorado Royale, which is an all inclusive resort about 15 minutes north of Playa. It was awesome :) The resort was amazing and the food was yummy. We had a private ocean front casita with our own private pool area. Our pool connected to a "lazy" river so we could swim or float to the main pool area (where the pool bar was :D) The beach wasn't the most beautiful beach I've ever seen though...lots of errosion. I'm not sure if that is the case with all the resorts in that area or just the El Dorado. There was still a beach it was just worn away in some spots.
