Anyone snack on popcorn?

I HAVE to have my lowfat popcorn at least 3x a week. It's my addiction! I usually buy Jolly Times "Healthy Pop", but the store doesn't always have it. Can anyone recommend another good brand that doesn't taste like cardboard?

TIA

Hi Aila!

Popcorn is my all time favorite food! I don't go with the healthy stuff though, I pop it in olive oil and a dab of butter, then load it with salt! :p Is healthy pop a microwave popcorn?

6 days a week, AND I eat the whole bag of Orville Redenbacher Smart Pop, Pop Secret, or Act II, the low fat varieties, or course. PC, OR and AII all have good low fat Kettle Corns, too!
Just Do It! :)

Popcorn is bad for my body type. I found that out the hard way. I was eating a mini bag of the low fat every night and noticed that I was getting really flabby. I believe it was due to eating all these carbs before I went to bed. I really like it though but not enough to go through that again!

I get microwave popcorn at the health food store. It's the only kind I've found that doesn't have trans fats (partially hydrogenated oils). I get the plain, and top it with a spray of tamari (soy sauce) and a sprinkle of nutritional yeast (for a "cheesy" flavor). But I don't eat it very often.

I don't eat it very often, but when I do I just put real popping corn (the cheap stuff sold in bags of a pound or so) into a paper lunch bag, tape it shut and microwave it for about 3 minutes. It's like air-popped and you can dress it up depending on your tastes with butter spray, popcorn salt or whatever. There's no source of fat in it that you didn't put into it and it's CHEAP. Just cover the bottom of the bag and be sure to fold the bag at the top and tape it closed.

Thank you all for your suggestions!

Paula- That sounds like something I would be interested in doing. Do you put in a few tablespoons in the bag? If so how many? I wouldn't want to put too much in.

OK, this is an "occasional treat only" but has anyone tried the "Cinnabon" popcorn? Holy cow, it's delicious. Definitely maximum evil but soooo good for a splurge day. :9

Smart Pop! I think it is Orville Redenbocker (spelling?) but it is the only one that uses "Smart Pop." I buy the light butter and the kettle corn flavor & both are rather yummy!

No, but will be trying it very soon....Sounds soooooo good!

I put about 3 "coffee scoops" in the bag. That's probably 5 or 6 tablespoons, but I would rather underpop and have some left over, than burn it and put up with the smell of burnt popcorn for days. You have to play with it a bit but even if you leave a few unpopped, it's still only fractions of a penny's worth! One of my DDs sprays on olive oil spray and then fat free parmesan cheese. You could aslo mix in nuts (my favorite indulgence) and butterscotch chips to make those treats more filling. I'm getting hungry...

Oh and speaking of the evil stuff - it's my weekly cheat, which I eat with the kids on popcorn and movie night. I do the regular old popcorn, air-popped, which is as healthy as it gets. Then, when you melt the butter, add in some slices of Velveeta cheese to make a thick bubbly cheese sauce. Pour over, mix toroughly. Told you it was evil.

Me too Aila! I cannot live without it. I love Redenbacher's 94% fat free. It's the only stuff I'll eat. It's low in calories and has lots of fiber and tastes great. Whatever you do, avoid Newman's low-fat now that they've eliminated the transfat. The stuff just crashes and burns in the microwave.

THE Best Popcorn!

I can't eat butter, so microwave popcorn is out for me (even the healthy stuff). I bought an air popper, which broke after a few months, and the popcorn tasted like cardboard. I checked online for popper opinions and discovered the WHIRLEY POPPER! It's the old fashioned stove-top kind with a handle that you turn. Takes about 3 minutes and as little as 1 tsp of oil. YUM!!!!! Soooo delicious for a healthy snack (well, except for all the salt I put on it:) ). What a treat!

And if you want the UNhealthy stuff, they sell packets of movie popcorn, cheddar and kettle corn, which tastes exactly like the kind you buy at fairs and festivals.

Popcorn is a must have snack for me. I used to buy Smart Pop until my parents gave me a popcorn machine called Stir Crazy. It uses about a tablespoon of oil and the popcorn has a better taste than the microwave stuff. Mind you, I enjoy popcorn so much that I will buy microwave if I am unable to use my popcorn gadget.

I don't even bring it in the house. My little guy Isaac for some reason has really bad diarrhea when he eats popcorn and also if he drinks orange juice in any strength. He loves all food, no matter what it is (except fresh fruit). He would still want the popcorn even if you had something else for him.

Interesting, Heather. I can see orange juice causing stomach upset, but popcorn? Have you tried different brands?
