Anyone own a bowflex?

Well, it is our new investment!:p Altough I am not THAT excited about it.I don't know if I will use it b/c I don't normally workout well by myself. My husband wanted it b/c he wants to START working out;) He goes threw those phases.
So, does anyone own one? Do you think its a good investment? What results have you seen?
I have often wondered if I need to put down the hand weights for a while and work with gym equipment.I am hoping that it won't be a waste of money.
Now my husband needs to get rid of the bench he doesn't use, to make room for his bowflex;)

I sure would love to know if anyone has one also, I have been thinking of getting rid of my hubby's dinosour of weight bench and getting one of those.

I hear ya! We have had a weight bench chasing us to every appt we ever lived in and now it is in our house where we will be for a while. The only thing it as been good for is drying clothes.

:) It is funny you mention the bowflex as I saw a commercial for it last night and thought it looked interesting. I have been thinking about getting a home gym and will have to check out the website for it!

We had one for about a year and sold it. I just didn't think that I got the results that I did with Cathe and hand weights. The resistance seems different. I don't really know how to explain it and maybe I was just imagining things.

Although, the Bowflex does allow a lot of options as far as the types of exercises that you do, it still has limitations that free weights don't have.

The best solution is probably to combine the gym equipment with free weight work.

My husband had intentions of using it too, but that didn't take long for him to get over.

Hope this helps,

Tina

We LOVE our Bowflex! We've owned one for about 2 years and it was the only equipment we used for that time, aside from cardio equipment. It is so much better and cheaper than one of those $10K total gyms that rich people buy. Changing the "rods" is easy and once you get used to it, it's no big deal. We bought ours thru the newspaper cuz someone is always selling one. We bought ours from a guy who weighed about 500 lbs. (I kid you not). His family bought it for him and he wasn't interested. But to return the Bowflex costs a chunck of change, so he sold it outright, at a discount. Yay for us! The only other thing is that it needs a lot of room in one dimension - probably about 8 to 9 feet. We got all the bells and whistles with it, too. It's great for upper body work and OK for lower body work.

For that reason, I discovered Cathe a few months ago. My husband is still faithful to the Bowflex but I use Cathe almost exclusively (for now). Yes, it does feel different than free weights and does give a different kind of workout - much harder to hurt yourself on it. Just the other day, I was telling my husband that I need to get back to using it cuz it IS a nice, different workout. Let me know if you want more info, and hope this helps. Cheryl

It was my idea to purchase one about 4 years ago. I loved it. There was not a single exercise that cannot be done on that machine (even cardio - rowing). For me it was tough designing my own workouts and staying concentrated. My husband was a professional bodybuilder and was used to the "old school" training~ he couldn't get used to the Rods. So, we sold it and purchased a Body Solid gym and I purchased 5 videos. Luckily, 2 were Cathe! I am strictly all Cathe now and enjoy my workouts very much.

No...but we have a Total Gym XL ;oD

I don't have a bowflex, but we just purchased a Total Gym XL with all the fixins, bells and whistles.:p It is really nice and I like the fact that I can collapse it and it stands alone by itself. We even got the bar that goes across at the bottom where you can add plates to make the workout harder, especially for the legs (squats/plies). It has the pilates attachments, cables, etc. and a few tapes explaining it and the moves you can do on it, a 1-hour full body workout, an 8-minute workout....what else???? I also like that I can do incline sit ups and that I can do lots of abdominal exercises. I am working on a rotation right now, and have been unable to get on it much...but I think it is a great machine. Just thought you may want to know a bit about the "other" machine out there....}( BTW, this machine did not cost 10K. :p We are paying it in 4 installments.

RE: No...but we have a Total Gym XL ;oD

Just to clarify, I didn't mean the Total Gym, total gym! I meant one of those monster (I'm so well informed!) units with different stations. Do you know what I mean? Actually, we have the Total Gym, Total Gym (I'm so funny) that we're selling. My 6'3" husband doesn't "fit" well on it. But we enjoyed it for awhile. Cheryl

Thanks everyone.
One of the guys my husband works with owns one.So that is where he got the idea from. His co-worker loves his.Says its the best.
Ours cost almost 3000 canadain.I was browsing thru the site and there is a 6 week challenge there. You can also download ways to workout.I think I will do that when I have more time. There are some circuit workouts on there.
Another great idea would be to do Imax2.Stop after the interval.Do some weights on the boxflex and then do another interval.
You never know. This maybe just the thing I needed to get me out of my plateau.

BF and I have a Bow and we like it so much we're thinking of adding on the new Bowflex Extreme which looks like it totally rocks!

I love using the Bow along w/my videos, it touches muscles in a way the videos can't and vice versa. So I'd totally recommend one if you can swing it $$$, because they ARE costly. But an investment in your health can only be good, right!

:D

RE: No...but we have a Total Gym XL ;oD

It was 2400 canadian and then 400 in taxes(of course).Came to 2800.I think the American dollar is worth 30% more then the canadian dollar. If I order anything from the states it costs a fortune. If I ordered something 100 american plus 30 and then costume charges. The end price would be almost 1/2. So it would cost probably 150-160 dollars. Thanks God for CKSALES or I would be paying a fortune for cathe vids.

How can a bowflex improve on using dumbbells and barbells with a Cathe workout?? It's more expensive and looks contrived in comparison. No offense, but I always thought those machines were for people who hadn't figured out that they can do the same job with simple free weights. Maybe I am missing something here??

I have to reply to my own response. I take it back. I've never tried a bowflex and therefore don't know what I am talking about. Forgive me for jumping in so quickly.

Most of what you said, before you took it back;), is true! What's the attraction? It's just another toy! And everybody loves new toys! Cheryl
