Anyone notice weird shoe sizing lately?

Just some random weirdness to rant about…

I love flip flops- all year round. Last summer, I ordered a pair from J Crew. The year before, I picked up a pair at a J Crew store, and they were a women’s 7. I usually wear a 7.5. They were a little too small, but they were just for the house and on sale lol. So, when I ordered, I got an 8. When they came in the mail, they were too small. They were exactly the same style as the 7’s from the previous year. I held them back to back, and the 8’s weren’t as long. So, I ordered a 9, and they fit. They were exactly the same as the 7’s when placed back to back. I asked J Crew if something was going on with their sizes or if I got a defective pair, and they said no. So, I thought, “Ok, whatever…” and enjoyed my flip flops.

Fast forward to Sunday. My mom got me some Old Navy flip flops for Easter. Last year I bought many pairs in a women’s 8, and they fit well. My mom bought me 9’s, and I decided to try them before returning them for 8’s. To my surprise, they fit! I measured them back to back with last year’s 8’s, same style, and they are exactly the same! What gives?

Anyone else experience this?

My foot got bigger with each pregnancy, and I was going to ask if you had a baby in the last year. Kind of wierd though with you measuring them and they don't match up. Flip flops have a nice edge to the sole so it's not like you aren't lining them up right.

Don't know what to tell you though. I can't stand anything between my toes so I never wear those. I live in my Teva's in the summer and Dansko's all winter.

Actually, I may be complaining of the same issue. I usually wear Birkenstock shoes/sandals and have for years, ever since I discovered them. Well, I haven't bought a new pair for probably 4-5 years and all the Birki shoes I have are a size 37 which is a USA women's size 6 (although I wear a size 7, but Birkenstock must run bigger). Okay, I bought a pair of waterproof Birk sandals and they came last week, size 37, and I'm thinking they are too small. My heel is right to the end of the shoes. I also ordered another pair that hasn't come yet so now I'm curious to see how that one fits and I may be sending them both back for their size 38.

And to continue the madness...I spent today shopping for a new pair of running shoes. I tried on shoes in three stores, umpteen shoe models and I could not find a single pair that fit me just right, no matter the cost. I came home empty handed. What is with shoe manufacturer's anymore?????
