Anyone like to row?

Hi guys!

Well, I have been having a terribly sluggish few days/weeks (I need to put an end to this slothful behavior!). But that is another story...
I actually wanted to find out what kinds of other activities you guys cross train with, besides Cathe and other videos. I find myself dying to get a rowing machine, although it will be a while before I have the money and the space for one (I'm holding out for the "real thing"--the Concept 2). Does anyone else like rowing, particularly indoor rowing? I am wondering if it might be the activity that will ignite my passion for exercise, since I still find it a chore to force myself to do videos...I wish I had the aerobic "bug" like so many of you do!!!

Anyway...my point is, anyone have experience with rowing?

Lauren :)

Hi Lauren

We have a Concept II (the newer style that can be split in half). It gets very little use because it's so darn boring and we rarely have days when we can't get outside. It's predecessor got a lot of use when we lived in the Pacific Northwest. Put in a favorite CD, strap on a heart rate monitor & get moving. I've considered getting a few Spinerval tapes to use as motivation while rowing because it is a nice full body workout.

I've tried some other rowers at clubs & none have compared to the Concept II. They are noisy so if you put on some music or a tape to keep you motivated, the volume will be high. So it's not the sort of thing you can do at 5 in the a.m. if anyone is trying to sleep.

Hi Lauren.
I started seriously working out 7 years ago.I started with rowing, stationary bike etc...I loved it but I became bored with it.Rowing is an excellent form of excerise & I highly recommend it.I do it every so often.I xtrain with running / step & kickboxing and of course weights.I found my mind became bored with repetitive movement & step / boxing etc... challenged me mentally. The exercises were not better cardiovascular wise but the thinking process drains me.It took me one year to master step and I still haven't touched Rythmic or Step works.I will be soon though.Whatever you choose to do will be the right decision.
I understand the concept 2 is the best
take care

To me, and this is not based on anything scientific or anything - just a plain old opinion, the key to exercising on a treadmill, rowing machine or bike in your house is to DO IT IN FRONT OF A TV WITH AN INTERESTING PROGRAM OR MOVIE PLAYING! You can still get a good workout and keep your mind on what you're doing, contrary to many opinions out there.

Speaking of that - I have a Norditrack that I've had over a year which I'm going to try to get used to next week, of course, when my favorite shows are on.

Just Do It! :)

I think rowing is great for cross training. (I have also been looking at the Concept Rowers, but have no room for it right now). When I used to go to the gym I'd get on the stair stepper and then do the rowing machine for a few minutes. Now I mostly run outside but wish I could row more!!!
