Anyone like P90X Yoga?

I'm about to start a P90X rotation and was wondering what everyone thought about this workout. I've never previewed it because it's so long, but I have heard from a few people on another board that it was a waste of time. I have a million yoga workouts that I could sub for it, but if the reviews are favorable on this board I may give it a try.

I like it, although I've had a total of 2 days where I could consider 90 minutes to devote to yoga. (I've had P90X for almost a year, and I have a bunch of 20 and 60 minute Rodney Yee workouts. I try to do yoga every week, but realistically, it's more like every 2 or 3 weeks!)

I think it's more traditional yoga in that he really goes for relaxation (after all the work). I think I'm so pooped after the 90 minutes I couldn't help but relax!

It's also very tough, I recall from the first time I did it. If you follow his plan I have no doubt that you will be more flexible after the 90 days!

Give it a whirl and let us know what you think!

I've tried yoga and never liked it. This, I could handle. Well, I did the first half of it so far and could handle it. Tony is more down to earth with it IMO and I like that.

I tried Bryan Kest's beginner work out and he moved waaay too fast for me!

I am not looking forward to 90 mins worth of yoga as I'm still not yoga's biggest fan BUT atleast I can deal with it more then before thanks to Tony. I actually have it on tap for tomorrow...I am wondering if I should split it up into 2 work outs...

HTH some but ya might want to wait for an opinnion from someone who actually TRULY ENJOYS yoga!:p

i loved the workout. i am excited to do it every time and you will find a difference in your core the next day.

Go to the Check-In forum to the P90X-er's. I am one of the ones that was not familiar with Yoga, when I started the P90x rotation. I was willing to try it and did once, but 90 minutes was just too long for me. I didn't enjoy it at all. Maybe if I had done some beginner at one time. I sub KPC for the YogaX day. It's also a nice break and it's good to see/hear Cathe again.

Leslie...If you are doing the P90X rotation I would suggest doing YogaX at least twice before you start substituting....the reason I say this is I think you need to see what Tony going for in this video. It is extremely long and I don't think Tony has the most yoga-like personality....but after doing Yogax each time I was supposed to in Phase 1 I could see a definite increase in my flexibility...and my stamina for yoga the poses. I know a lot of people split it up into 2 workouts...but I truly think you get more out of it if you can do it all at one time.

Anyway...just my 2 cents...Good luck!!

It had to grow on me. First time, I hated it. Second time, I realized how it was making me feel..relaxed, more flexible, etc. Now I feel so relaxed when I am done that I can't wait to do it again. The first half is like when your eating a chocolate sundae and you can't wait to get to the chocolate at the bottom as it gets better and even better at the end when your in the fetal position, happy baby position, etc. Kinda neat too to see the positions you can get into and how long you can stay in them. Like the challenge.

I agree. I HATED it at first. But now I absolutely love love love it. It is one of the workouts I actually look forward to now even though it is 90 minutes long. It makes me feel really good. Good luck trying it.

I am doing this yoga at least once a week. Then shorter ones for the other two days of the week. For me it is a must, because I'm older and need it for flexibility, stamina and balance. It also helps with the rotations I do once a month.

Good luck,

Janie

It's one of my favorite Yoga DVD's. It covers all the Yoga positions that I love. I think Tony does a fantastic job on this one.

we've been talking about this in our check-in....

i have a love/hate thing with yogaX.... i truly dread it cuz, mentally.... it's s loooooooong workout.... so i dread it...

however i do it and do not substitute and do not shorten it..... (this is my second time throught the rotation... so yes... for 3 months i did that workout EVERY week.. and 2 times during recovery week!)

i do like tony's yoga.... although he is kinda "loud".... you get busy and do it! i am thankful when i see "last vinyasa" on the screen though! lol!

i've bought other yoga dvd's since doing yogaX and most of them are too slow and dull for me... go figure!

and the "funny" thing i pointed out in check-in today: i dread yogaX cuz it's 90 min... but all the weight workouts are about 80 min.... and i don't dread those!

i agree.... don't substitute until you've done it a few time... this program is so well thought out and goes together so well!

give it a chance.... you make love/hate it, too!

This was my introduction to yoga. I did the whole thing througout my P90X rotation. I also got where I looked forward to it. I still use it just usually not quite the whole thing. Doing the whole thing I always felt so loose and limber and much more relaxed at the end. I think it is a great addition to your workout. I have bought two other yoga dvd's since this one because of it.

Have to laugh at those who say "Waste of time". Agree that 90 minutes is a LONG time but a waste?
YogaX is extremely athletic yoga for first 47 minutes. Then its about 20 minutes of balancing poses and 20 minutes of stretch poses. It is really 3 workouts in 1 to me. Feel free to do it as 2 or 3 seperate workouts as it is designed in segments.
I am NOT a yoga gal and find the first 45 minutes extrememly challenging but Yoga done properly is indeed challenging by nature. I use other Yoga DVDs every few weeks but keep this one in the mix to chart my improvement.

Yoga X actually got me more interested in yoga and I started doing it more (though I've gotten back to not doing it!). It is long, but you can skip some chapters---I sometimes would skip the section with the plow in it.

I say, at least give it a try. You might like it. You might not. But you won't know just based on what others think about it, or just by watching it.

I think it fits perfectly into the P90X rotation and adds some leg and strength work.

I LOVE this workout .. I have only done it once .. and did the entire 90 minutes .. I do yoga .. and Byron Baptiste is my favorite instructor .. and really did not think I would like this workout .. but I did!

To me the first 30 min. is hard .. then the next is harder .. then the last 30 min. is more balancing and wringing out what you worked up and twisted up ..

It is not as "mental" or "visual" as most yoga .. but he works the crap out of you .. and I was left with a total feeling of well being and acomplishment .. {and shaking muscles}

.. give it a try .. :)

I really love this workout too. First 45 minutes is tough and I too love when I hear Tony say "Ok, last vinyasa of the day". The remaining of the workout is more relaxing to me. The next day I always seem to feel sore in my abs and hamstrings. I love it though.

It's my favourite P90X workout. I love it. It works my glutes and hamstrings terrifically well, makes me feel wonderful, and works me hard without impact. 6 weeks into P90X's Classic rotation I'm seeing great gains in my flexibility, particularly when I do the kickboxing workout (KenpoX). I will use this one in my post-P90X life.

Two thumbs up,
Sandra

I LOVE Tony, I mean Yoga X. ;) I also hated this workout when I first did it. I hadn't done yoga. But I'm really starting to LOVE it and look forward to it. Today was my Yoga X day and I woke up late. I was SO bummed. I only did the first 45 minutes. I didn't get to experience my favorite part - the second half. I'll have to do it tonight. I feel unbalanced. :p We'll see how my day goes. The first 45 minutes is hard, but last week I thought I'd try another yoga workout instead and it was HARDER b/c it was the same stuff but faster. I missed Tony so much that I popped his DVD right back in.

Well, I'm convinced! How could I not be with all the glowing reviews! I go through phases with yoga. Sometimes it's all I want to do and other times I don't have the patience for it. I realize the X rotation is a flexibility killer if you don't incorporate a good deal of stretching in, so I'll do it as is...The length kind of threw me because I've never done 90 min. of yoga, but I'll psych myself out for it.

Thanks!:)
