Anyone know where I can buy some cheap dumbbells?

Hey all!

I'm looking for 7 and 9 lb. dumbells. I hate neoprene (prefer the hex ones) but I may be stuck with them. I just got the S&H series and need some in between weights. The only place I've seen them so far was Spriproducts but the shipping was prohibitive.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be most grateful.

Thanks,
Becky

There must be some out there somewhere...but I've never seen them. The hex ones (which I have) go 3, 5, 8, 10, 12, etc. but I've never seen those inbetween sizes except in neoprene or vinyl. Do you have a local fitness store that carries Spri products? I know where I live the fitness stores that carry Spri are usually higher-end fitness stores. It's been my experience that the mega fitness stores always seem to carry neoprene and the standard hex I already mentioned.

Sorry, I know this isn't much help.

If you are looking to "micro-load" (increase your weight in small increments), you may want to consider magnets.

You can buy magnets from Home Depot (in the hardware section) or maybe an arts & crafts store. They run about $3 for a small package. You can "micro-load" your weights that way.

I took apart some old speakers & pried the magnets from the back of the speaker & use those. I have a food scale & weighed them to see how much they weigh. I have 1/4 lb & 1/2 lb magnets. They are awesome! They don't look pretty like platemates do but they work just as well. LOL

I was looking for you in my "Fitness 1st" catalog last night, and they have these odd sizes in dumbells, 7's and 9's.

Try them online at fitnessfirst.com

Do you have Play It Again Sports in your area? They sell used fitness equipment and the prices are pretty amazing. At the one in my area I saw all sorts of dumbbells, both neoprene and standard hex in all different weights. They also sell individual step risers and barbell plates. There is a website where you can check on locations, www.playitagainsports.com.

You may also want to consider a barbell set. I know Walmart has something were you get two 12 inch long handles, a set of plates totalling 40 pounds and spring ring collars. Then you can make the weight custom to your fitness level and go up as needed.
