Anyone here from Central California?

Hi,

I've wonered and wondered this for years! I seem to be the only one from this part of California. I live in the San Juaquin Valley(Clovis Ca. USA) and wish there was a Catheite nearby. deb:(

I love Clovis!!! Except it's growing a lot these days. Just like any CA city with room to expand.

I'm in Redwood City, just a mere 5 hours away, LOL. My husband and I spent 3 summers living in Kings Canyon NP, working at a summer camp so Clovis (and Fresno) was like heaven as it was where we spent our days off.

Not Central....but Northern. Shasta County for the last 25 years. I grew up in LA and finally got out...:)...Carole

I live in Grover Beach, about 2 1/2 hours away from Clovis. My best friend, who is not a Catheite, lives in Clovis. I go up there to visit her whenever I can. I'm going up in a few weeks to spend the weekend there. The shopping where I live is not good. But the shopping in Clovis makes my heart beat a little faster!

Hi Elaine,

Wow, I must plead ignorance when it comes to Grover Beach, neaver heard of it and acutually had to pull out a map to orient myself. There are so many places I have no knowledge of. When you mentioned that you were coming to Clovis to shop, I almost spit my coffee out! We don't even have a Macy's here. You must be shopping for antiques, right? That is what Old Town Clovis is all about. Do you have family here? I have lived here all my life and unfortunately I take Clovis for granted. Hope you have a great visit while in Clovis, stay cool while your here...shoot, it's hot! deb:)

Hi Keli,

San Jose California is where my in-laws live. In fact, my husband and son are there today ( they went to a San Fransisco Giants game on friday and stayed in San Jose). I don't know a heck of allot about San Jose except to say that I know it's a large city with allot to offer. Where are you moving from? You must be packing as we speak! Hope your move is an easy one. deb:)

Hi Amy,

Your right, boy is Clovis ever growing! Clovis can be a nice place to visit, especially if you've been camping. I know where Redwood City is ( I'm a singer with a band and did a wedding there a couple of years ago..) and it is a nice place. Clovis has it's charms as most towns do. Wish that there were more Catheites here though. I harbour a fantasy that I might find a buddy to do workouts with here. Ahhhhh well. deb:)

The shopping here in the 5 cities area (Grover Beach, Arroyo Grande, Pismo Beach, Shell Beach and Oceano) consists of K-Mart and Walmart. There's an outlet mall in Pismo that has only one store that's worth anything (Bass).

Shopping is pitiful here but no growth is the trend. In addition to the year round mild climate that's why real estate prices are out of sight.

Hey Carole,

As far as I knew, you were the only Catheite in California. Shoot, weird huh? Every once in a while I'll ask trainers and teachers at our local fitness club if they know about Cathe and they seem to know about her and are generally underwhelmed. I don't get that. It really doesn't matter, we know better right?;-) dmd

I grew up in Tracy, Ca and lived in Stockton and Turlock for a few years. I now live in Texas though. Commute and house prices drove us out of California.

Of course we know better...I knew Elaine lived in Calif. Most of the people I hang with are runners and they have never heard of Cathe. I guess they don't crosstrain either...:)

Jeannette...I have a very good friend that grew up in Susanville. I have lived in Redding since 1980.....Carole

Hi Dawn,
I was involved in competetive baton twirling with USTA and had tournaments in Stockton and Turlock all the time. There were a couple of fantastic twirlers from that area: Annette Mounce and Tammy Pruett. My fathers family is from Texas ( Rio Grande Valley). We made the twenty hour drive from Clovis to Mercedes, Texas a couple of years ago for his funeral...that was a brutal drive. I'll never forget the 97 degree weather in the middle of November! deb:)

Hi Deb!
I am still in the planning stages of my move, but my big moving day will be in early August. I have the boxes, and I keep telling myself it won't take that long to pack. I think I have procrastinator tendencies.

I grew up in Iowa and now live in Colorado. It's funny because as a kid I always thought California would be the coolest place to live (afterall, that's where the Bionic Woman lived or at least where it was filmed), and now that I am moving there it just seems surreal, but the cost of living has been a huge wake-up call! It is exciting though. I hope the weather is as great as people say! OH and I am so looking forward to trips to the ocean and mountains!

Hey maybe all of you Calfornia-ites/Catheites can tell me about the great places to workout or just other fun things to do in CA! The more good things I hear the better it makes me feel!

Keli

I grew up practically living at the beach in Southern Cal. Not real familiar with beaches near San Jose. But I doubt you will be bored there as there are alot of things to do. The ocean a bit north of San Jose...like Eureka or Trinidad is awesome...the beautful ocean and trees growing right there!!!!...:)...Carole

Wouldn't that be great?!? The way I figure it, if I can find someone nearby, then I only have to buy half the DVDs... LOL

Wait a minute. Then I'd have to buy twice the house to have room for two!!!:7

Keli-

You just might love it here!!! You'll be about 25 minutes away (I think) from Santa Cruz, where there are tons of beaches and surfer dudes, LOL.

You'll also be a few minutes away from some fantastic huge parks (I'm talking about camping/hiking parks not swingset parks).

The weather isn't as great as southern CA, but compared to Colorado and Iowa, you might feel like you're in a bit of a paradise. August- mid October will be hot, though- those are our hottest months.

I tried to PM you about all the fantastic things but I don't know if it worked...

KELI I FORGOT ABOUT THE **SHOPPING**

You are 5 minutes away (okay maybe 10 with parking) from some of the best shopping around!! I went into one mall, Valley Fair, today. I haven't been there for 15 years and I was thinking about you! It's huge. Huge. HUGE! And right nearby is Santana Row, that place is really new and really great. High end, but lots of restaurants and walking-around places to window shop.

OMG I'm getting excited just typing about it...!! LOL

Yippee! That sounds awesome! I love to shop! And surfer dudes sound fun too (wink, wink!)!

Wow! Thanks you guys! I needed a good boost and your posts definitely gave it!

Keli!
