I have had my gallbladder removed. Mine was removed a looonng time ago, though. It was in 1978. So, I had more of a major surgery than what they perform today. I was on the thin side, so they only had to cut about a 4 inch incision, horizontally under my ribs. They used to really make a large incision, but I was lucky (for back then). I believe they used to cut vertically and then horizontally. I had to stay in the hospital for almost a week, but breezed through it. Nowadays....they do it with a laparascope and a very tiny incision and do it as an outpatient! My sister just had hers done and she went back to work in just a couple of days (but I don't know if she was supposed to o back so soon, but she did).

I was only 19 years old at the time and had just had my first baby.

Hi
I had my gallbladder removed about 2 1/2 yrs ago. The pain I was having from it was a 100 times worse then the surgery. The surgery went very well, they went thru my belly button and I was out the same day, I was a little sore and had some help for a few days but it is well worth it to be pain free. You have to watch what you eat as far as spicy foods, you have to stay bland for a while after the surgery but I think that is also up to your DR.
I didn't really know it was my gallbladder until I went to the ER in terrible pain & my pain was around my Belly button not anywhere else, well they found large stones so they removed it.

Good Luck!

My girlfriend had it done. When she was pregnant her gallbladder went bad and they took it out about a month after the baby was born. She said the same thing - the pain of the gb attacks was a million times worse than the surgery. She now can eat pretty normally.

Good luck and don't wait! Let us know what happens!
