Anyone had injections for the laugh lines on their face...

I have had those lovely "distinguished" laugh lines (nasolabial folds) since I was young. I've always known that I will have something done at some point in time. Well, that point is quickly approaching but with all the options out there, it's hard to know which one to get. Have any of you had this done and are happy with the results? I also have the lines just below the corners of the mouth (marionette lines - hate that term) and will get those treated as well. While I'm at it, I might have the frown lines (vertical ones) done as well. Wouldn't an eraser make this so much easier? I know there's Collagen, Restylane, Juvederm, etc. and they all sound good but that's the way they're supposed to sound. There's also also a non-surgical procedure done to your entire face which stimulates collagen growth over time and gives you a youthful look.

If you wouldn't mind sharing your experiences, I'd appreciate it.

Thank you.

I've tried both Restylane & Juvederm. Both cost the same but Juvederm worked much better for me. I don't know why, they supposedly both do the same thing--it might be an individual thing but I really really love the Juvederm. I tried it for the first time about 3 months ago b/c I got some 20% discount coupon from Botox (makers of Juvederm). I wasn't so much concerned w/the smile lines as with the frown lines at the corners of my mouth & it made them completely disappear!

Now I'm trying to figure out how I'm gonna be able to afford it twice a year until I get some major work done in 10 years or so.......;-)

Collagen I think has gone the way of 8 track tapes & boom boxes. I've never had my doc even mention it to me as an option.

Hope this helps!

LauraMax, did it hurt like h*ll? I saw a thing on TV and this lady got her laugh lines done and her lips plumped. My eyes were watering just watching it!!!!

Besides it looking painful, the cost is keeping me away, too. I'm afraid I'll like it too much!

So there I was in the car a few weeks ago with my sweet DD, and we were talking about wrinkles. She said "Mom, you don't have any wrinkles!" and I said that I did, around my eyes and such. She said "Mom, those aren't wrinkles, those are just from laughing so they mean you're happy!".

I think I'll keep 'em :)

Yeah, I like my laugh lines. :) It's my frown lines I hate. :(

Liz, I wouldn't say it hurt like hell but it wasn't like being tickled either. :p There is some discomfort, especially when you get close to the nose. It really depends on your own resistence to pain (I think exercisers have a higher threshold for pain, but I could be wrong).

And there is slight bruising after--took about 2-3 days before it faded (believe me--next time will be done on a Friday afternoon! :7 ). But the results were well worth it, I'm very pleased with it & plan on eating tuna out of a can at least 2X a day so I continue the injections. }(

I had botox for my frown lines & outer eyes, I loved the result. I bruise very easily & was black & blue for about 2 weeks, but that is just me. If you have a good plastic surgeon, speak to them about which injection would be best for you, that is what I did. There is alson an herb that you can take to help the black & blue which my doctor gives me, I can not remember the name as I am at work and the pills are at home

So far, I've not done anything done to my face.

I've only had lipo a couple of years ago.

How did you get the 20% off for the Juvederm?

I know it is quite expensive.

How long did the treatments last?

I really want to avoid a face lift at this point in my life.

I am not saying I might have a lift 5 years down the road, but for now, I am fairly satisfied with my face for the most part.

Shelley,

Smart DD! And smart mom! Yeah, at 50, I'm seeing more wrinkles, and laugh lines, and frown lines, and every other kind of line!;) But, I earned them. My only regret is that I didn't start using massive amounts of sunscreen earlier.

I'm keeping mine, too.

Juvederm is fairly new on the market--last year or so--& it's put out by Botox, who has me on their e-mail list for sure. ;-) So I just got a coupon for a "free trial."

Check their website--you might be able to still get the discount for your first treatment. Prices vary, I live in a pretty expensive area & I've found this stuff costs WAY more here than in other regions (the cost of my Botox treatments almost quadrupled when I moved here from southeastern VA).

Like Restylane, the treatments last about 6 mos. I just got it in May so I'm not sure how accurate this is.

I'm with you on the facelift--with the advances in cosmetic procedures I'm hoping by the time I'm ready I'll just have to take a pill. }(

I was at work at couldn't pop in and I have to run out now but will have MANY more questions later. :p Could you tell me how much this costs? Thanks.

My frown lines, forhead & eye crinkle lines cost $500 & it was done by my plastic surgeon who is board certified in reconstructive plastic surgery. I live in NY on Long Island & the price might be cheaper elsewhere, I do not know

Well, ladies, i had the surgery. If you are gonna spend 500 bucks every 6 months. Suffer and do it.
At a grand a year. You will pay for it in 5 yrs..

Hurts like the dickens, but i would do it again.
Family genetics play a big part..of wrinkles, bags and skin and muscle tone.

fat injections also work on the smile lines..Alot will be reabsorbed..
My theory is why look older than you fee just because life delt you a bad deck .
Some age better than others.
Oh, you will think twice about sun=screen after..

Karen, that seems to be a very reasonable price. I do know that the price of getting any type of injection is inflated by thousands of a percent. They are purchased in vats at a cost that we'd be shocked to know. I was told this awhile ago by people in the field.

Someone I knew had an injection that contained gortex in her forehead. She got it done for free as she worked in a dr.'s office. When I saw her several weeks afterward, there was a bump there that she was supposed to be smoothing down every day. I don't recall seeing her after that.

With the Restylane or Juvederm or similar, after 6 months or so when you have to get it re-done, is it that your body just has absorbed the material? Can you still have facials done and use scrubs in the treated areas?

Anne, congrats to you! I say do whatever makes you feel good about yourself. Have you seen the mini-facelift where they put thread into your skin and pull it tight around your temples? When you need a tightening, they just go in and pull up some more on the threads.

RE: Anyone had injections for the laugh lines on their ...

A friend of mine had a face lift after a very bitter, ugly divorce, and she looked (and still looks) wonderful. She'd had quite a few wrinkles from many years of sun worshipping and the surgery left her skin looking super smooth and youthful.

I don't know a whole lot about these other treatments, and I'm wondering what is it that is making some of these celebrities look so *weird* and not like themselves? Some of their faces seem to get badly distorted. Is it too many surgeries or too many injections of a certain kind or a combination of both?

You should write down all your questions & see a doctor who does this. I also had a mini face lift & neck lift, it was the BEST money I ever spent & I am truly thrilled with the results. The botox just keeps everything nicer. I never used scrubs on my skin & I don't like facials. The only thing I use besides nutreogenia soap is regenerst by Olay

There are no bumps with either Restylane or Juvederm. I'm not sure what happens to the actual solution--either it's broken down & absorbed by the body or leaves the body in some other way.....maybe through your pores. Probably a better question for a doc than us amateurs. :p

I've asked my doc about the threading facelift. She's not doing it now b/c it's not yet perfected--evidently there have been a lot of problems w/the threading slipping within a few months of the procedure. But it does sound like a great option for the future when it is perfected--I can just see myself going to the doc every couple of years for an "adjustment." :+

RE: Anyone had injections for the laugh lines on their ...

Docs sometimes offer free talks about different facial procedures. I haven't been to one in a few years but the problem is that they promote whatever their doing in their office and it may be only a couple different ones. I'd like to have an impartial fact sheet on various procedures and find out about ones that I may not have heard of. I'm not quite sure where to look for this. The Juvederm certainly sounds like the front runner for what I'm looking for right now although I do want to find out more about the one that stimulates the collagen growth on your entire face.

Thanks again ladies for all of your input. If you hear of anything new or have results to share from yourself or friends, I'd love to hear it. I'll also let you know what I decide to do. If I come on here and start typing funny, you'll know something went a bit awry! }:)+
