Hello everyone. I was just wondering if anyone is going to see this movie. I am going to see it tomorrow and can't wait to see it. I had to preorder the tickets in advanced.

I am planning on going ot see it, too! I don't have tickets as of yet ( or a babysitter for that matter :) I am so glad that there is finally a movie in the theatre that depicts actually facts based on the Gospels. As it is these days, we have way too many smut movies that are sexually explicit, immoral, and downright crude playing in the movie theatres. It is refreshing to see that there is a movie out that will stir our minds and our souls. Hooray for Mel Gibson :)

I seriously , seriously doubt it. Any film that has churches and other religious organizations block booking tickets for evangelization purposes is a complete anathema to me.

I have never thought much of Mel Gibson. This confirms it. All I can say for the man is that he's either deluded or has a lot of balls.

I will stick to re-runs of "The Last Temptation of Christ" which IS an intellectual stimulus.

I really don't have any desire to see it. IMHO, all of this ostensible "controversy" is simply a movie marketing genius's magic; every time another cleric weighs in on it, I can hear "ka-CHING!!!!!" going off somewhere in Mel Gibson's wallet.

And I'd never, ever go to see a movie, mainstream or indie, that purports to "educate" me on religion, history or anything else of importance. Movies are about movies, not historical truth. This is The Gospel According To Mel, and that I'll pass on.

I give Mel a lot of credit for making the movie. He is going against the Hollywood left and making a film on a subject he truly believes in. What frustrates me are all the people who are bashing a film they haven't even seen yet.

That being said, I'm not going to see it! The thought of watching a man tortured and humiliated for 2 hours is more than I can handle.:-(

I'm kind of torn on it. On one hand I would like to go see it, I think it would be a very good movie to go see. On the other, I don't know if I can watch everything that Christ went through for us in such graffic detail. I can read about it and try to picture it in my mind, and I think that is enough for me.
But this is a very controversial post, so that is all I have to say about that.

I can't wait to see it Barbara! We bought tickets about a week or so ago. We are going this Friday. Mel put his own money up for the making of this movie. I know it is going to be very emotional so we opted to go by ourselves rather then joining a group of people that we know. Don't forget your tissues!

Oh Debbie how can I

forget the tissues;( Thanks for reminding me. I'll be going with my mom, brother, and sister. My kids will be in school and my husband will be at work so I better turn off my cell phone, LOL.

I'm with Aquajock and Kathryn and Clare on this one.

I sure hope I don't ignite anything here, but I have a fairly unusual perspective on this film and would like to just voice it here among (I hope) friends, as long as the subject has come up.

I am one half of a successful Christian-Jewish marriage in which neither spouse converted (and both of us are persons of great faith.) I am also the proud mother of two sons who have grown to be young men of strong and observant personal faith but who also have been taught to honor and respect all faiths and to look for commonalities in belief as opposed to differences. Our children feel emotional and intellectual curiosity about other faiths besides their own confirmed faith, and kinship and tolerance for people of other faiths. More so than many kids their ages, our sons are very conscious of, and find, the "thread" of God and faith in lots of issues in their lives. For me and my DH, I can't think of anything that could feel more deeply satisfying than knowing we have succeeded in instilling these values and traits into our sons. We're certainly not unique in having tried to teach our children these values -- they are not JUST the values of an interfaith home. It's just that in our home, without these core values we'd have no foundation in being who we are.

I don't doubt Mel Gibson's sincerity or his faith (which I admire, by the way), but his own statements and the pre-release hoopla certainly suggest to me that this movie presents a very specific traditionalist-faith point of view with which I would not agree. I have no desire to see a film that purports to teach me about religious absolutes. I would feel this way even if I hadn't just spent the last 25 years of my life in a very non-absolute environment -- but my personal disagreement with religious absolutism has certainly been cemented by the life I've led.

And, of course, the Christian-Jew controversy surrounding this movie frankly makes me very uncomfortable and is deeply, immensely saddening to me. I will breathe a big sigh of relief when the first "wave" of post-release commentary has come and gone, and I will hope that the movie doesn't create any lasting divisiveness between these two vital religious communities.

I'd really like to see it, but I don't think I'll be able to go tomorrow. No babysitter, and it's a school night. I give Mel Gibson a lot of credit, too. It seems it's okay to stand up for any belief these days, and yet proclaiming your Christianity and belief in the gospels is taking so much criticism. I find it sad. Let us know how it is.

I will go see this movie. I don't know when but it is a sure thing. As far as this being a marketing ploy on Mel's part....he is just responding to the negative feedback hollywood has given him. Why shouldn't Mel make money off of this movie when film makers/prodcers/actors make money every day off of movies that slander Christ and everything He stands for? I will refrain from further comment until I have actually seen it.
Angela:)

My husband and i are going to go see it. Jesus is my Lord and Savior and i believe it will be a humbling experience to see what my Lord did for me. I have read all 4 gospels many times and i really give Mel Gibson credit for doing this film. I know this movie will be extremely touching and emotional and hopefully will move on peoples hearts. My husband and I are going...glad to have a film that will be thought provoking. As a Christian believer, I am interested in seeing the perspective.
