Anyone from Northeastern NY/Adirondacks/Lake Champlain ...

Would love to find any information/opinions on living in Northeastern NY,

namely, Plattsburgh, Saratoga, Lake Placid, any place near Lake Champlain, as that is where we might be relocating, with two young teenagers and animals.

Hi Carrie!

I'm 30 minutes south of Saratoga, which is the August place to be for horse racing fans. They have the oldest and most beautiful racetrack in the country, IMHO. There have been a lot of horse racing movies filmed there....the most recent being Seabiscuit.

Saratoga has low property taxes, but the housing is expensive. We have four seasons and the more north you go, the more snow you are going to encounter. Saratoga downtown is very nice. There are some famous baths in the Saratoga Historic Park, as well as the Saratoga Performing Arts Center(SPAC) which is the summer home to the NYC ballet and Philadelphia Orchestra and they also have lots of concerts over the summer including a Jazz Fest.

Lake Placid is gorgeous. DS#1 started his never-ending college career there. I'm about to visit Plattsburgh in a few weeks as DS#3 got accepted to a college there.

Wow, it sounds interesting. We're planning on visiting there in a few weeks ourselves. My DD loves horses, so that's like it's right up her alley. And my DS loves the snow. Can't get enough snowboarding...
