Cathlete
Hello,

I've been working out with Cathe since last July and I'd like to know if anyone is from Kansas?

I am- originally from north of Wichita but now in Shawnee.

I workout out for a few years religiously with the Firm, now can't stand them, wanting to get going on Cathe but it seems every time I get started I get stopped!! Where are you in Kansas?

Andrea

I'm in Abilene...do you know where that is?

What keeps you from getting started? Sometimes getting started can be the hardest part but once you get going you can't stop.
I'm commited to Cathe because of what she has introduced to me. Last summer, I had hit a plateau and didn't know how to get out of it. About that time, I decided to order Direct TV, not realizing Cathe was on it, and one day I was looking through the channels and came across her show and thought, that's what I've been looking for; someone like her..not afraid to lift heavy weights. Since then I've been hooked.
Do you have kids? I've got 3; ages 16, 14 1/2 and 5. After having my third child I let myself go...didn't exercise, ate whatever..just didn't care. When she was two I decided it was time to eat better and excercise...I can honestly say that the older I get the wiser I become about my health.
Tell me more about you?

One thing that has stopped me is a nagging shoulder injury/problem- seems everytime I get really rolling I end up hurting myself all over again. If not that, something else, I get sick, get overtired- as in really, really worn out- and I hit a wall. It's hard to EASE INTO Cathe. I have the beginner rotation and her DVDs, did that for a good couple of months and almost couldn't stand it, I had a bunch of other workouts staring me in the face that seemed so exciting...

I did just read a really good set of posts about not doing so much chest/anterior delt work that really may help my shoulder problem quite a bit, so I'm excited...

I don't have any kids, I'm 36 and married, and have to get up at 4:30 every morning for work. That is one of my issues- I've always, ALWAYS been a morning workout person. I just can't do that now, if I start getting up at 3 am I'll really wear myself out. My work schedule changed a year ago and my job is very physically and extremely MENTALLY demanding- some days I get home and just have to space out for a while. I work in the blood bank in the children's hospital and not only am I on my feet all day running in circles, I am making sure everyone has exactly what they need RIGHT THIS MINUTE all day- not always easy! They just doubles the amount of cardiac surgery they do and it's getting pretty hectic...so I'd say that's a good part of my problem.

I'm getting over that, though, slowly, and realizing the best thing to shake off the day is a little Cathe! That and a massage every week or two! Glad you posted- I'm feeling more motivated to get back into it already!

No way! You lived in Concordia? My parents were born and raised there and most of my family lives there. What a small world! We go up to Concordia and Scandia every year for harvest to help out. My kids love it. We all were born and raised in Houston and they don't get "farm life" at all.

I am born and raised in Kansas grew up in Clay Center moved to Haddam and then when my oldest DD was 4 moved to Concordia left there about 5 years ago and now live in Manhattan. Been to Abilene many time for volleyball games. Small world we live in. I have two DDs one is 22 and married the other is 20 and just getting ready to graduate from Highland of Wamego and then move out on her own. I discovered Cathe about 7 months ago and wish I would have found her much sooner. I have tried many different exercises over the years but never stuck with them, now I am obsessed and never miss a workout.

With a demanding job like yours it can keep you from getting started especially during the week. But, one thing to keep in mind, exercise can help take your mind off of daily issues, at least for a while. If I'm feeling down and unmotivated I go to my basement and start running or put in a Cathe DVD...I feel refreshed and full of energy when I'm done. I've purchased a few DVD's and the STS. I'm so excited about STS...to me, there is nothing better than lifting weights and feeling my muscles work.
With your shoulder issue, I agree with what you read...limit the exercises you do.
Just remember your health is #1...exercise is just part of the equation for good health. Set goals...that is what I do.
How about clean eating? With your hectic work schedule, what type of food do you eat during the week? I purchased Tosca Reno's Eat-Clean Diet Cookbook and have enjoyed many recipes...if your interested in any recipes, let me know!

Thanks for the advice. My diet, at work, is impeccable. LF Yogurt, muesli, and berries for breakfast, a huge salad with salmon/tuna/chicken and walnuts with a dash of dressing and some fruit for lunch...then I get home. I have a really clean dinner about two nights a week, but often am horribly tempted by pizza, mexican food, and beer. If I plan ahead, it is so easy to eat well. Hubby is cool with eating well too- just need to plan! Ok, ok, starting tomorrow...it is Cinco de Mayo is it not??

I also need to work on planning my workouts better to ease in and look at the big picture. What type of goals do you set? I just currently need to set a goal of getting myself down to my workout room before my butt hits the couch!

As for Concordia- I lived there for about six months, really liked the town but not my job- it was my first job out of school and I didn't know anyone, and I was overwhelmed with having to take call at the hospital and work on my own two weeks out of school. I really didn't like having to run in in the middle of the night and draw blood on people as they were having heart attacks, coming in from car crashes, etc and then run all the testing with no one else around...it was a little much for me that early on in my career! Now I love working on my own, but then...I lived in a beautiful house on 3rd street I believe and would go to Salina after work for fun!

Manhattan- gosh I love Manhattan. Best years of my life there. Took my mom to a BB game this year for her Christmas present- she was really geeked out about seeing Beasley and Walker play! We love the Mediterranean Steak Salad at Little Apple Brewery. MMmmm.....

Well off to work, hope everyone has a great day and some more people join in !

Between Pittsburg and Arma Kansas in the very southeast corner. We're about 25 miles from Joplin, Missouri. (More people seem to have heard of Joplin.)
