Anyone else crave more cardio?

I hate to be a bummer, but I miss Cathe's intense cardio only workouts, or cardio with just a tad of strength in them. Am I alone? Did Cathe outgrow me?!:??!?!?

Gosh, Cathe does have a ton of workouts with intense cardio and less weight training. DrillMax and BodyMax come to mind right off hand. Plus she offers so many intense cardio only workouts doesn't she?

I am sorry if I misunderstand (I do that alot:) ), but do you wish the new workouts were more cardio focused? I personally like the mix and find if you lift hard, that 30 minutes of cardio is just right!:D

I don't really like strength training at all. I started off with Cathe in the mid-90s when she was ALL cardio. I guess I"m just old fashioned. I"m so grateful to the premixes that allow me to pick cardio only options. ;)

I understand. I was hoping for the boxing w/outs next. I'll be fine with these too. I do want to see more cardio focused w/outs though. I have plenty of weight ones.

YES!!!!!!!

Melanie:

You are not alone. Michele craves more cardio! ;-) LOL! :7

Seriously, I am a cardio lover by nature. I am amazed that I am enjoying the weight work in the 4-Day Split. It is mercifully short with no endless reps, and the time flies thanks to the way Cathe sequenced the exercises. The cardio is still my favorite part of these new workouts. I love, love, love the dancy step choreography and the cardio kickboxing! Boot Camp is fun too but is my least favorite of the bunch.

Cathe’s November rotation is a challenge for me. I am enjoying all the workouts, but I am tired beyond description. I miss the natural high and feeling of bursting with energy that an intense cardio and circuit training rotation gives me. Cardio energizes me and suppresses my appetite. Heavy weight training makes me tired and hungry. I added a little more protein in the form of organic air-chilled chicken to tame my appetite and keep from overeating starchy carbs. It seems to be working, but I feel so much better with more cardio and more carbs. After the holidays, I will be ready to return to cardio, circuit training, and a plant-based way of eating.

Yes, I am craving more cardio. I am having withdrawals. LOL! But I believe the cardio in this series is just right for the heavy weight training that follows. Cathe’s November rotation with all the rest and stretch days is just right too. I am making every effort to follow Cathe’s rotation as written. Yesterday was a rest day, and I was craving cardio like crazy last night. I got my fix this morning with Higher Intensity Step. :7

I am waiting patiently for Rhythmic Step 2! :7 I do cardio for fun and the pure joy of the experience. :7 Weight work is all about results (that I will hopefully see).

Blessings,
Heather B.

>Michele craves more cardio! LOL!

 :p

Heather is NOT telling the truth -- LOL!!!

I can honestly tell you that I never EVER crave more cardio. I really don't like cardio very much and I have to force myself to do it. Not only that, but I don't like long workouts of any kind. I prefer workouts that make efficient use of my time so the 4DS lives up to my ideal very well. ;)

ANOTHER CARDIO HATER here to back Michele, LOL!!! :) ;-) :)

It is just one of those necessary evils in my book- I do it all the time BUT I DON'T HAVE TO LIKE IT!!!
(shh... I do LOVE/LOVE/LOVE DM & all kickboxing/bootcamp workouts though)

Yes, I crave more cardio, too! I feel exactly the same way you do. I prefer mainly cardio with strength mixed in. I also prefer the strength parts to incorporate some movement to keep the heart rate up. I want the maximum calorie burn for the time I have to workout! :) True, I'm not a dedicated weightlifter like so many others on this forum, but for me, the reason I buy DVD's to workout is for interesting choreography and cardio intensity set to good music. Honestly, if I ever decided to dedicate more time to strength training, I would prefer to do it myself while I watch TV or listen to my own music.

Although I enjoyed many aspects of the new 4DS, I was a little disappointed that the cardio sessions were so short and not as intense as I was hoping. Also, the heavy weights don't flow very well with the cardio if you do a circuit premix. Instead of being called HIS w/heavy weights or LIS w/ heavy weights, etc. it should have been Heavy Weights w/HIS, etc. Emphasis on the weights! I don't know that I would have bought them had I realized the focus was more on the weights. I'm sure there are many who find the combination just perfect for how they workout, but I really prefer Imax II cardio & weights, Drillmax, Imax 3, etc. I was also bummed to see that the new workouts will be all about weights! :( Again, it's all personal preference and I'm sure there is a good market out there for that, but I would LOVE to see more high intensity circuit workouts (with some cardio weight training)! How about Imax 4 plus cardio/weights!!! Could one dare to dream? :D

i am a cardio junkie and there ar eso many options. cathe hads so many premixes. try the step, jump and pump/step blast premix (i think it's about 90 minutes). also, cardio fusion or hardcore extreme. i think there are enough premixes of pure crdio in her workouts that you could be doing cardio forever!

also, being the iTread junkie that i am, i use those a lot. you can always string 2 60 minute ones together or mix and match different tracks to make a workout as long as you want.

i don't think you've outgrown cathe, just look for other cathe options. i am guilty of that as i usually do the workouts as is and never take enough advantage of the premixes!!!

I understand what you're saying. My desire for long cardio sessions definitely waxes and wanes. Sometimes I'm quite happy doing just 30 mins with 30 mins of strength. But lately, I've been wanting at least 45 mins of super-sweat-inducing cardio. So I've been using the double cardio premix on the new series alot, and upping my treadmill use, and also kickboxing and other workouts. Yesterday, for example, I did the HIS/LIS double cardio, and then the 30 min timesaver of GS legs.

If you'd like longer cardio, why not try some other instructors, too? I've recently discovered Tracey Staehle workouts (have the sweat series) which I really love. The kickbox workout in her cardio sweatfest is about an hour long... and I wear weighted gloves so I'm really spent by the end.

Another cardio craver here. I am completely 'meh' about the new workouts. I'm sure they will be a fab 'system' but my shelves are full to overflowing with variations on strength work. I know all things are subject to change but we're a long way from what was announced as projects for '07. I'll keep looking forward to the day that we get a heart thumping MIC2 or a solid kickbox step workout *fingers crossed*

Take Care
Laurie:)

I adore both cardio and weight training. I would like to do equal amounts of it but my body actually responds better to LESS cardio.

That being said, I am very happy with the STS announcement and do not mind at all that she hasn't released any cardio only work outs as of late.

In addition, as much as I love Cathe's cardio work outs, I have also grown to love running so I don't have the opportunity to do more then 1 or 2 Cathe cardios in any given week. That being the case, I really have no need for any more cardio only work outs at this point.

:) :) :)

I have two left feet, so I do Cathe strength only. I do my cardio on the machines at the gym. Also, I don't like thinking for myself regarding fitness. I want an expert to tell me exactly what I need to do. In addition, I don't like to combine cardio and weight training, because I feel they both suffer as a result. So, to me, the new STS announcement is the most exciting announcement in years! :D :D

Nancy, I recently read a few peer reviewed articles for a class about concurrent training (cardio and weights). They basically concluded that if cardio and weight programs are done in a balanced way (even in one workout), that one can actually get better gains that way than with just doing weight training or just doing cardio. I thought you may be interested. :)

Thanks, Carolyn. I don't doubt it. I was referring to the, i.e., Jari Love let's-see-how-many-calories-we-can-burn-while-lifting kind of combining with fast reps. I usually wind up injuring myself and my heart rate doesn't get that high. I'm sure Cathe's circuit training workouts are great for those who can do Cathe cardio, but I can't do those. :(

Ah yes.. I totally agree. There is a place for super fast lifting (but I believe that usually entails a visit to the ER or sports doc). I know some people swear by it but I'm with you on this one. :)

Do you think the articles were referring to circuit training or lifting-as-cardio? With my klutziness and sore lower back, the latter is an accident waiting to happen. ;)

Aghghg there is an STS announcement??!!! YIPPEE!!!! I am heading out to find it!

And my input is that the best part of Cathe dvds is her variety and ability to produce EFFECTIVE workouts - whether they are cardio, circuits, strength, endurance, whatever......I have never bought a dvd from her and thought to myself "gee this isn't effective" no matter what she puts out there - I have always gotten results!

I do agree with one above poster that HEAVY weight training makes me more tired, but that is due to the longer recovery my muscles need - which means its working ;-) with that being said, I do heavy weight training in shorter bursts - 4-6 weeks and then back to endurance based training.

Nance, I can't do Cathe's cardio either. I struggle with Basic Step and Body Fusion, for crying out loud  :p , but I like to combine cardio and weights in the same session so something like the 4DS is perfect for me. I love the weight work in this split but there is NO WAY I can do those step routines. It's not even within the realm of possibility, so I sub with cardio I CAN do, like Cardio Coach and walking workouts. I realize some people might say I'm not getting my money's worth out of this set but I disagree. I love the weight segments and I'll use them a lot, and I don't feel like I have to deny myself workouts I will enjoy just because I can't do the cardio parts.

I'd definitely like to see more 'cardio-only' workouts again. It seems like so long since Cathe made one of those. The last series was heavy on the cardio/weight combo workouts, and I think I now have enough of those (from Cathe and other instructors) to last me a while!

I like to alternate days of weight training and days of cardio.
