Anyone doing Body For Life?

Hi!

I was wondering if anyone else out there is doing Body For Life, and I was wondering what your results have been thus far - changes in energy, your body, your eating, etc???

Also, how do you fit in Cathe workouts with the BFL exercise plan?

Thanks!
Chrissy

Not doing BFL now, but have in the past. Cathe's Pyramid workouts are perfect for this.. you can alternate like they do in the BFL program, using upper one day then lower, then upper, or if you want to get both upper and lower 2 times a week, do the whole or total body pre-mix one day and then the upper once and the lower. I believe there is a ongoing thread for BFL in the "check in" forum

I did really well on it, for 6 months, lost 20 pounds, and went from a 12 to a 8. I hurt my back ( herniated disk) then had surgery and fell back to old habits. Loved the program, and still do the eating plan when I can. I just mix up the workouts, as your body gets used to one way of working out ( eg the pyramid style) and you don't improve any more.

Hi Chrissy. I am currently doing BFL. I am in my third week and I"ve lost 5lbs so far. I don't use all Cathe for the exercise program. I use HIIT on the elliptical or bike for my cardio. I have access to a gym so I train my legs there and then add on either floor work from PLB or GS Legs. I think that GS Legs, Pure Strength Legs or PLB would work well too instead of following BFL's exercise plan. I like using PUB for upper body or doing GS Chest/Tri one day and GS Shoulders/Back/Biceps for my other UB workout.

As for eating, I think that the plan is very easy to follow. I haven't noticed any change in my energy level but I did eat pretty healthy before I started doing BFL.

One thing (at least for me) is that I tend to get discouraged b/c the first week I lost 4lbs, the next week one lb and the next week NOTHING! I'm trying to remain optimistic though!

Good luck with BFL.

I pretty much try to follow the BFL eating plan. I'm not as strict currently as I can be but I usually get very strict again about 4 months before going to Mexico. It works very well for me. I don't have a lot to lose, but lost 11 pounds before I went to Mexico in February. The first time I did it, I followed the weight workout and I think it's an awesome way to build muscle. Now that I have Cathe workouts (didn't discover her until November), my weight workouts vary from hers to Bowflex and free weights. As for the cardio, I ran for 20 years and have been a cyclist for about 5 now, so a 20 minute HIIT wasn't enough for me, in my mind. So I always do much more. But that's just me. If I'm short on time, it's nice to know that I CAN do a 20 minute HIIT and not feel like I've done nothing. But I don't do that very often. And yes, the pyramid workous that Cathe has are great for BFL workouts.

Once you've done BFL for awhile, it really does become a way of life, even when you're not as strict as you should be. I highly recommend it b/c it's easy and most importantly you get a cheat day and I can't live without Ding Dongs for too long. :p

ETA: I have heard A LOT of women, me included, don't lose a single pound until around the 8th week. Not sure why, but I can't tell you how many times I've heard it. So if you start it, stick with it through the end.

Good luck!

Suz

Wow! That's interesting about the weight loss being slower for women. I'll keep that in mind so I don't get discouraged too soon and quit! I'm really excited about trying this! I keep going on the BFL website, and that gets me even more excited. I figured I could probably switch up my workouts after a while. I thought I'd start with the BFL workouts, and then change as my progression plateaus.

Any other tips I should know about?

Chrissy

Chrissy,

I think my best suggestion would be to try to follow the program EXACTLY the first time around. It works! A gal my DH works with lost 80 pounds on BFL and looks awesome. And that was a few years ago and she still looks great. It's good that you're visiting the BFL website. Lots of motivation there. If they still sell the success videos I would highly recomment them. They are very good and very motivating b/c you see what real people went through. I've watched them a million times.

Good luck and feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

I tried BFL about 4-5 years ago. I lost 8 lbs in the first week and nothing after. I really had a difficult time with it because of the eating schedule. As a nurse, working 12 hr shifts in a busy ICU, eating every 2-3 hours just was not an option, so it went by the wayside pretty quick.
I am doing Weight Watchers now and have lost 65 lbs with another 25 or so to go.

It's what ever works for you and that you are able to change for and stick with.

I did it 6 years ago and lost 20 pounds and gained lots of muscle definition. Prior to that though I wasn't working out on a regular basis and did no weights so virtually any reasonable exercise program would have helped me.

The eating part was initially easy while I was losing but after about 6 months it became harder and harder to wait until my free day for the foods I craved. I'm on the Weight Watchers flex program now which allows little treats and is easier for me to stick to.

When I did my initial 12 week program I hadn't even discovered Cathe yet so I used my Jane Fonda or Gilad step workouts which were the only ones I had at the time. I've added a few (well, maybe more than a few ;-)) workouts since then. I did weights at the gym on their equipment or free weights at home.

Hi Chrissy,

If you do a search under "BFL" or "letswork" you'll find me singing the praises of BFL. I've been on the plan for years now and can't tell you how much I love it.

Hi:

Could you provide me with a sample of your eating plan for BFL? I would like to try the program. I have to book, but since you have actually done the program I would really appreciate it if you could give me that information. Dee:)
