Anyone do weight watchers w/cathe's workouts?

I was thinking of joining WW to lose 10 lbs. that I have been hanging on to FOREVER! Does anyone know if it works with Cathe's hard workouts? My problem is under eating and my body holding on to everything I take in (starvation mode). I'm busy having twin toddlers! Anyway, knowing how hard the workouts are I know you need to take in more calories than someone not lifting and wondered would the WW plans give you enough calories to gain muscle and lose the weight?

Yes, Randi, there are a bunch of us following the WW program, and in fact we have a daily check in you are welcome to join.

The WW program gives you activity points for your workouts. Step aerobics earns a little more than weight work, but either way, you are allotted more calories to use along with the hard workouts you do.

It's a great program. Its primary weakness in my opinion is that it doesn't differentiate "pounds of what?" in the weight you lose - and it's of course important to lose fat and not hard earned muscle. But the check in groups here can help you protect your muscle and measure your progress on losing fat and becoming more lean.

I follow WW through the online program, by the way - www.weightwatchers.com. It's much cheaper and no meetings, although if you're new to WW you might want to start with a month or so of meetings at first.

Welcome and we wish you success!

Randi,
I know the program changes, so maybe my one "complaint" about it is no longer relevant. But years ago, I thought they were skimpy about the amount of activity points they gave you. I was going hungry when I was doing intense cardio workouts. Again, the program has probably seen adaptations, but I mention it b/c you said your problem is undereating, and I think you might be tempted or feel pressure to restrict your points. I think the WW program is excellent for weight loss, but I can see how athletes might have a harder time w/ it. JMO. I recommend Tom Venuto's e-book Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle.

Best of luck!

Randi-I'm a WW lifetime member for over 2 years now. I agree with everything stated above. I love the flexibility of the WW program, but at times while training for longer runs (like half and full marathons), I have to kind of sway from the program, but that is an exception to the rule. IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!! TRUST US!

I think I'll be joining the WW check in. HMMMMMMMMM

My main complaint with WW for years was the lack of calories, but they recently tweaked their points again so that it's more individualized (you take a quiz where they ask you your age, weight, activity level, etc.). I recently re-joined and get 5 points more a day than I used to. It's made such a difference.

I also do Cathe's weight and cardio workouts and have noticed gains in strength and endurance since starting WW again.

Edited to add: I also bought Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle and it is an excellent resource, especially in terms of timing my meals and workouts.

I have tried WW several times over the past couple of years and I actually gain weight every time I try it. I eat way more food than allowed on the plan and I felt that I was starving. I ate all my daily points plus my activity points and was still hungry. And, like, I said, I gained weight. I asked my doctor about this, and he said I definitely was not getting enough calories for my activity level. I weigh in the low 120s, so I was at the lowest points level which I think the high was 23, if I'm remembering correctly. Even for days I didn't workout hard, I needed way more than 23 points.
