Anyone ACE certified? "Personal Trainer"

Georgia

Cathlete
I'm thinking about becoming ACE certified.(American Council of Exercise)The Lifestyle and Weight Management coarse. I quess I'm looking for advice on who's been there and done that. I was on there website and it's awfuly expensive. The want over $200 on the package the contains everything.(study materals, manuals, and sample tests) then anywhere $175 to over $200 to take the test. That's alot of money. What package did you get? How where the test? Any imput would be greatly appreciated.

I'm an ACE certified PT, and have the Exercise Etc. study package to become Lifestyle and Weight management Certified. Their package is cheaper than ACE, and I like what they put out. I used them to prepare for the PT test.

If you have taken the PT test, a lot of what you learned is on the LS&WM test. By the way, ACE requires that you now have the PT certification before you take the LS&WM test.

I was going to take the LS&WM test in August, but I'm putting it off until November or February.

RE: ACE-certified group fitness instructor

Hi, Georgia! I've been ACE certified in group fitness instruction since February 1997. Much of the textbook for the group fitness instructor exam, especially the core information about exercise physiology, anatomy, kinesiology, nutrition, etc., is a duplicate of the personal trainer exam. I purchased the textbook, study manual, and practice test and studied for it on my own for about 3 months, and passed the test the first try. The test for me was like walking through mud for 3 solid hours, but/so the studying really paid off.

The materials seem expensive, I know, but I believe that the knowledge you gain from them will serve you well for your fitness practice-for-pay AND for your own personal fitness. I still have the Group Fitness Instructor manual AND I have the Personal Trainer Manual textbook, and I constantly refer back to them for refresher information. The more you know for yourself, the less dependent you'll be on fitness hacks that only want to sell you something.

GO FOR THE PERSONAL TRAINER EXAM! GOOD LUCK!

Hi,

I'm studying for the ACE Pt exam now to take in August (I really want the LWMC cert but you got to have the PT cert first). I just purchased the book, study guide and sample test ($85) for the PT exam and the book and sample test for LWMC exam ($55).
Not too bad. Register early so that the exam is only $175. If you do well with self-study you should be ok.
Besides, if you use your Personal training or your LWMC cert to make money then the expenses are a tax deduction (provided you make the money in the same year you spent it).
(I'm a CPA, you can trust me. Especially since I learned all I know at Arthur Andersen). :)

I am certified througn ISSA (International Sports Sciences Association and the total cost was about $450.00--plus add your travel and expenses for a two day testing seminar.)
It was worth it. i enjoy every ounce of knowledge I gained. murph
