Anybody row??

I have an old Concept 2 rower that has been stored for a long time b/c I didn't have room for it for a while. It was in a house that my family has in the country and last time I went there, I saw my rower and got on it. Wow - I missed that thing. It is now back home and I am enjoying it again. I just found the iROWs. Anybody use that, or anything else with a rower? How long do you row for? Do you switch arm positions?

Shana,
I don't row, but I've been intrigued by it, and tempted to get a Concept 2 (if the economy were better, and I hadn't blown my big spending in Paris this summer, I was thinking about getting one for Christmas!)

I'm interested in seeing the responses you get, and seeing what other people are doing with rowing and how effective they find it.

I really, really want a rowing machine. A number of CrossFit affiliates use them a lot. I'm hoping to pick up a used Concept 2 (seems to be the gold standard) this spring, if I can find one.

My next purchase for my gym is going to be a water rower. They look amazing. I hear it is the best total body workout you can do.

I love those water rowers! I've tried them at the store but does not make sense to get one since I have mine - love the water sound though.

Concept 2 does seem to be the one to have - mine is old and still good as new with no maintenance.

What a timely thread for me. I was reading Run Less, Run Faster and they recommend you do 2 cardio-cross training workouts a week along with 3 runs. They only recommend running, biking, or rowing as they say the crosstraining workouts should be rhythmic and no-impact. I mentioned it to DH and he is very excited about the idea of getting a rower.

Just don't get something cheap - I love the chain driven mechanism on mine. It is very comfortable with the long reach too.

We have the Concept 2 and it is a favorite of DH's. It's a great machine- we bought it before we had kids or else we couldn't afford it now. I don't use it that much at the moment, but I will get around to it again, especially since iTrain does iRow workouts. I didn't know that! Anyway, it is a great workout and is a wonderful way to cross train. I don't do anything fancy or different with arm positions, just the basics. :)
