Anybody else taking a break from step?

Hello ladies:

I am addicted to step classes/videos, but lately I found myself only running outdoors. I find that the time away from the lab where I can easily be disturbed while working out has a big influence on my decision. I am getting so addicted to running alone that I run for at least 1-1.5 hours 4-5 times per week. I think I am going to shoot for training for running the marathon next year. Right now I am up to 5 miles per hour because after back surgery that is all I seem to be able to handle. But, I can run faster and longer distances almost every week.

ANy thoughts, or experiences to share along the same lines. Are you addicted to some form of exercise??? Inquiring minds want to know.

I am also starting to get back into running. I go in phases where I will just do step for awhile and kickboxing and then start running again. I have decided that I am going to do 2 runs a week and 2-3 step or kickbox a week. I am kind of getting tired of step and I think my body has it a plateau, so I am shaking things up a bit. I have a treadmill but I also like to run outside. It is so therapeutic running outdoors. I don't run very fast. I am at 6-6.5 and hour. I would rather run longer that faster. Anyway, I am definitely cutting back on step aerobics and I hope I see some results.

I've never been "addicted to step," but I have gone through phases like that with kickboxing. I'd do it every day if I didn't think cross-training was important. I never do any kind of cardio more than 3 days a week (4 would be the absolute maximum, on alternate weeks, with a day off in between).

I think it's good to take a break from certain types of exercise for a while. Your body gets used to it, and you get less "bang for the buck" if you do it a lot. When you come back from that break, your body has to do a bit of relearning, and it makes the workout less efficient, and therefore more of a calorie burner.

I ALSO HAVE BEEN WALKING AND RUNNING MORE LATELY. I LOVE MY STEP ROUTINES, BUT MY KNEES AND ANKLES HAVE BEEN SORE LATELY. I GUESS IT IS TIME FOR NEW SHOES. PLUS I HAVE BEEN KIND OF DOWN LATELY AND TO DO CATHES'S ROUTINE TAKES CONCENTRATION TO NOT FALL OFF THE STEP. WHEN YOU RUN IT IS LIKE THAT INSTANT HEART PUMPIMG EUPHORIA THAT ONLY RUNNING CAN GIVE YOU. PLUS THE SCENES ARE DIFFERENT.GOOD LIKE ON YOUR TRAINING. I KNOW YOU WILL REACH YOUR GOAL!!!!!!!!

i have taken a huge break from step since the roadtrip. my knees and ankles needed major rest and i was bored with it anyway. i may get back to it soon though.

I seem to go in cycles. I was all about step for a long time, then like you, totally addicted to running, then I went through my kickboxing craze. Now I really focus on cross training and although this isn't always the case, I try to do a little of each every couple of weeks. So maybe I'll do step, running and kickboxing all in one week. The variety keeps everything fresh! Then every once in a while I'll go through a couple of weeks of step, etc. It's now all about my mood! :) :)
