Any thoughts on The Abs Diet?

I just recently read the abs diet and really liked what I was reading. My one overiding question is about how much protein to eat. He says 1 gram per pound of body fat. Quite alot. Every book I read says something different and I am not sure if that much protein is hard on the liver. Also I would love to substitute more legumes for protein. Do you ever get tired of chicken, eggs and fish? Eating six meals a day pretty much requires you to have a least two of those a day. Any thoughts?

I havent read the book but I know what you mean about protein! I just ordered some "unflavored" protein powder that claims to be undetectable in hot cereals, coffee, diet sodas etc. I'm going to give this a try, it's 70 cals a scoop, 0-1 gm fat, and 17 gm protein.

I'm not really sure about it being too much protein for the liver or kidney. If you're overall a healthy person I dont think it would matter too much. I often wondered if too many carbs are harmful on the pancreas with obesity and the link with diabetes and insulin. Everything in moderation I suppose!

Hi there, I am new here, just started with Cathe. Been watching her on FitTv for a a long while and I caved and bought some DVDs to try at home.
I was a competitive (natural) bodybuilder for about 6 years. That was about 7 years ago however but the knowledge stays fresh in my mind, LOL. The subject of protein has always been a hot topic. I always subscribed to what I learned years ago and that was 1 gram of protein per pound of LEAN body mass, so not what you weight but what your muscle mass is. For instance, get your body fat checked (preferably not by calipers as they are too innacurate in my opinion) and then you can deduct that percent from your overall body weight and you have your lean body mass amount. You want to only feed the muscle mass in your body to build/tone muscle not the fat, that additional protein does not get used up and turns to fat in your body. Back in my hayday I was up to 180 grams of protein a day because I was building serious muscle at a weight of only around 118 lbs at competition. Nowadays to stay in shape I'll do maybe 100-120, depends on how much you are working out. This also demonstrates that the amount you eat can alter your appearance. Women are always afraid to use weights but unless you lift like He-man and eat protein and clean carbs like a horse you can't make those gains they are afraid of. Hope this helps! :)
