any suggestions would help

Hi everyone,
In less than two weeks I take my group exercise instructor test with AFAA and I was hoping someone could give me a few pointers.

I am required to do a 8 minute warm-up/stretch segment. I think I'll do fine on that. I am also required to do a 1-2 minute presentation on an exercise of my choice. I have to show the exercise from beginning, to intermediate to advanced levels. I am having a little trouble choosing an exercise for this. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Kristie :)

How about pushups? There are certainly alot of modifications you could use. Congratulations on your progress on becoming an instructor.

Hi Kristie! I personally can't help you, but my sister just took the same test with AFAA about two months ago, so I am going to email her and see if she has any suggestions. I know this isn't immediate feedback, but hopefully she'll have something useful!
Good Luck!

Angela

Thanks Gloria,

I thought about doing pushups but I am scared that so many other people would do that too. I guess that would be ok though. Thanks for the input.

If you can show an exercise that uses equipment, you could demonstrate tricep dips! Lotsa variety there! beginner would be on the floor, intermediate would be using the bench(tallbox ,step,or stabilityball) with bent knees advanced would be extending legs out while dipping down! Also you can show how to increase the workload by adding some weight to the tricep dips with a barbell or medicine ball on your lap of the bent knee position while dipping, to show another advance move-show a tricep dip off of the tallbox , bench or step with your feet on another step or stability ball(advanced move) just a suggestion to make your time go by quick-Good luck!

Thanks for the tricep dip recommendation Francine. Unfortunately I do not believe we can use equipment. I wish we could. THanks again.

Kristie, Good luck to you! I did crunches for my AFAA test. It seemed like everyone else did too, but the evaluators really focussed on whether or not I did each portion correctly, not how I did compared to anyone else. My feedback was personal and constructive. My best tip is to do the exercise that you feel most comfortable with - both with form and cuing.
