Any substitution for push ups?

A couple weeks ago, I hurt my wrist and hand doing tricep dips. I have weak wrists and I kinda use my hand as leverage and I overdid it. I am so annoyed with myself because I should know better. I've been wearing a wrist splint from the drug store when I work out to keep my wrist and hand firm, etc. and waiting for it to get better. Meanwhile, I am losing ground on pushups. Seems if I don't keep them up, I lose it so fast. Anybody have any ideas for a substitution without putting pressure on wrist and hand?

Hi... I can't bend my wrists due to pain and immobility from rheumatoid arthritis so I always use dumbbells to do pushups on. This keeps my wrists straight and doesn't hurt them. Hope this helps.

Laura... we posted at the same time with the same idea:) You're right, it definitely takes a lot of the pressure off.

Thanks, I actually tried that, but it also puts pressure on my hand which is part of what I injured. That's my quandry.

How about using your step for incline push ups?

After wrist surgery, I used a step to put my hands on so that I'd be doing the push ups on an incline. I did that for SEVERAL months until about 2 months ago. Now I can do all 72 push ups from Gym Style Chest on my toes.

Try it...maybe that will work for you!

I've also seen people doing them in the gym off the wall... the same as if you were on the floor, only you're standing. :) Seriously, that might help you keep the lost-momentum to a minimum...

Good luck!
