Any special modifications/precautions for exercising on carpet?

Cathe, or anyone who might have ideas...

I notice that I have to be extra careful when I pivot on my carpeted floor at home, and as a result I tend to fall behind the pace of the workout at times. Especially during kickboxing.

Are there any modifications you could recommend, or should I just keep doing as I am and be extra careful?

Thanks,
Jerry

Some people wrap duct tape around the front part of their shoes to allow them to pivot better on carpet. Just make sure you don't wrap the entire sole, as it may make it too slippery.

On pivot moves in KickMax, you can just omit them, and keep the movement to the front (concentrating instead on power and height). That's what I do: not because I can't pivot, but because I don't like to.

HTH!

Wow Kathryn, that's a great idea! Wrapping the front part of the shoes with duct tape, that is...I have the same problem and must be very careful when there are pivoting moves so I don't tweak my knee. I'll have to try that before my KPC workout!

Thanks for asking Jerry!

I work out on carpet and I never pivot on those floor moves where you pivot completely around (think of the kick/pivot all around in Kick Max, for instance). Little pivots, yes. But the BIG full-circle pivots where you repeat the move in four directions? I stay facing forward because it's too tough on the ankles and knees when done on carpet. I'd do it if I weren't on carpet, though.
