Any runners?

Hi everyone, I'm just now incorporating running into my exercise regimen and was wondering if anyone would run after doing MuscleMax. If I'd like some cardio on the same day as MuscleMax should I run/jog before or after or just not do cardio at all. Thanks everyone!
It's a continuing process.....

Hi Christi! I think it depends on you and how you feel and what you did the day before. I find it's easier to do a run the same day as MM then the same day as an all Legs workout like L&G or GS Legs. If you're talking about a short run (like 20-30 min) then I'd say to do it. But if it's a long run, I'd do it on a separate day. Also, I generally like to do my cardio first but that's just a personal preference. A 20 minute run gets me nicely warmed up for a good strength session. :)

Hope that helps! :) :)

I'm a marathoner and have always done weight work too. As Jo said its a preference and I would do MM on the same day as a run but I normally do the weights before I run, especially legs, and after a run I think my legs are a bit weaker (depending on the distance) and I feel I wouldn't get enough out of the leg workout of I did it after. As for ab/core work I tend to do that after cardio. I do change things around every now and then...:)...Carole

I always run before I do weight work. It just works out better for me because I run at 5:30 in the morning (I live in a tropical climate and the sun is brutal). Anyway, like my fellow runners said, it is a matter of preference.

Thanks ladies, I did my first running session (26 min) yesterday and rested a little while and then did Muscle Max. It was great. I didn't know running burned the glutes. I was little shocked at that.

Carole,

I'm a marathon runner also so checked out this post.

I took a look at your profile and I must say you look great! What is you typical workout rotation?

Elaine

Hi Elaine and Thanks! The pic was taken after 2 P90X (with a bit of Cathe) rotations. I am not real good at following rotations, most of the time due to my running. I have discovered 50K's and I am really liking them..:)...easier than a marathon. What I try for every week is 2 days heavy lower body, 1 day lower body endurance, 3 days Shoulders, triceps and biceps, 2 days Back and Chest and 3-4 days core/abs, using Cathe and sometimes P90X, plus running and Kickbox and maybe step. I love the Hardcores right now! How many marathons have you done? I've done 12 but I seem to enjoy more trail running as I get older and 50K's are mostly on trails...:)..Carole

Carole, I'm curious, why is a 50k easier for you then a marathon? What's different? Is it the mental focus is different or what?

Thanks! :)
Jo

Hi Jo...good question...:)...in a marathon you feel guilty if you walk...in a 50K you feel guilty if you don't walk..:)...It could be mental but in a 50K there just isn't the pressure for a particular pace. Most Ultra runners normally walk the uphills which saves the leg muscles for the 31 miles. I also prefer running trails now...and most 50K's are trail runs...like the weight lifting..could just be a preference...:)...Carole

Interesting, thank you! I kind of wondered if it wasn't something like that because from everything I've read, the pressure and strategy is completely different. What you say makes sense!

Thank you!
Jo
