Any runners out there?

I ran my 1st 10K this morning. Yahoo! It's so exciting to have accomplished a goal, isn't it? I've run a couple of 5K's, but my goal for this summer was a 10K. I am about 8 1/2 weeks along...and I really wanted to do this. I had a little bit of spotting last week, so I wasn't sure if I was going to pull this deal off, but I did. I wore my HR monitor, and took it very easy. It took my about 68 minutes to run the 10K. Any runners out there? I should almost be embarrassed of my time. I wasn't last, but close to it. There were only 30 or so runners. There were two HUGE hills, and I took them very easy...I didn't want to go anaerobic, as I normally would. The course had lots of twists and "minor" hills. It feels good to be done. I don't think I will do another one this year. Maybe a 5K. Definitely stick with the videos.
I know this is long, but I just felt like sharing. :7

Coongratulations! I am so impressed! I went running this morning and did terrible - and I'm not pregnant! I don't do well in the heat/humidity.

I had my last baby in August, 2002 and I was lucky enough to be able to run throughout my pregnancy. I really enjoyed running while pregnant - I felt like I had a little "buddy" with me. I made sure I drank tons of water and dropped to running/walking as I got further along. I kept thinking I would have to stop running, but felt well enough and finally stopped when I hit 37 weeks - I only stopped then because it was so incredibly hot and humid out.

Hope you have a wonderful pregnancy!!

Good job! I can't imagine running a 10K right now. I am am runner, but on hiatus right now. I ran a half-marathon on the first day of my last period, and I've haven't run anywhere except to the bathroom since! I plan to start up again post-childbirth. My cousin ran until she was 34 weeks. I've even heard of some people going longer than that. Good luck with running as long as you are able. Listen to your body - you know yourself best.

i'm jelous! i'm 23 weeks with number two and had to stop running about two weeks ago. i've been having horrible round ligament pain and something got pulled, or hasn't been right, for two weeks. hopefully i can start up again, but for now it's walking (which even hurts) and cathe! good luck!

Thanks for all your input! That 10K was my last running experience since. I was planning on running a 5K this morning, but DH is really against me running during pregnancy. I had some light spotting a few weeks back & he doesn't want me to over do it. I can definitely see his point, and so I won't be running anymore this season. I'll have to wait until next Spring...I'll have to get a jogstoller!!! I am still doing my Cathe & Mindy Mylera videos when I'm able. I am envious of the women who can run into their 3rd trimester! Wow! That's amazing.

I just want to say I am really proud of you. There is a 5K in our little town in September that I would like to run in, but I keep thinking....I'll be 7 months pregnant at that time, can it be done? It's only a 5K, I'll have to wait and see. Weren't you the one worried about your workouts in another thread??????? I think your doing just fine kiddo!! If anything....you might be just a little tired from your 10K run. GOOD JOB!!!!

Question...so your spotting cleared up and your run didn't seem to bring anymore bleeding on? This is wonderful if that's the case. Glad your doing much better!!

Briee: Thanks for your response! Yes, the spotting has halted. I haven't spotted in over a week now. Yeah!!! The running did not bring on any add'l bleeding. I'm thinking that the spotting (which was dark brown) was old blood.

Are you still running? I agree, it's too soon to tell how you'll be feeling in September. What a great time of year to run though! Yeah, a 5K is just a 30 minute run. My guess is if your able to keep up your workouts, you probably will be able to run. Just run slower and stay hydrated. Warning though!!! I'm so competitive, it was really difficult to be one of the last people across the finish line!!!

Though my running days are done for the season, I'm still trying to keep up with Cathe videos. I splurged and bought Cathe's CTX DVD. I have her videos, but I thought it'd be nice to have her DVD, so I can easily modify the videos. I'm thinking that since these are more of a "timesaver" workout I might be able to keep up with it easier during & after pregnancy. Cathe's newest DVD's that are due to come out the end of summer has a timesaver portion too. I can't wait! Hopefully I'll feel good enough to explore those when the time comes!! I splurged some more and purchased an orange Cathe cap too. I guess I'm in the splurging kind of mood. :7

Yes, I'm apprehensive about weight gain (and weight loss after baby comes). It's so hard not to worry about this. I've gained 2-3 pounds already & I'm only 10 weeks along. My nausea only goes away when I eat, so I'm pretty much munching all the time. I try to eat as healthy as I can (lots of fruits & nuts).

Anyways, thanks for all your encouragement!

You know Mel.....you just pointed out an important thought for us prego's. I don't currently have a DVD player, but I preordered the Cathe DVD's that are going to be released and I wasn't even thinking of the timesaving option. As you mentioned, the CTX DVD's would be great for a shorter workout, maybe I'll have to try to push up the purchase of the DVD player and order the CTX series....hmmmmmm really good thought there...thanks. (now quit trying to make me spend more money }( }( }( !!)

Briee

Do you have the CTX series on VHS? Did I mention that I purchased her cap too? If you place an order now, you MUST buy the cap too!!! Just think of all the people that you might run into that are also Cathe fans! You might even be able to "share" videos. The possibilities are limitless! How's that for thriftyness (is that a word)?

Anyways, I splurged (I do that a lot) on a DVD player a couple of months ago. I purchased the Terminator and thought I'd be nice to program my DVD and make my own combinations. I am too technologically challenged to figure it out though...it's nice that Cathe is doing the "blender" thing for all of us out here who can't figure out how to program DVD's.

Thanks again, for all your encouragement! I actually feel real good today. I'm a little tired, but I"m not laying on the couch moaning! Wednesay I have an ultrasound & meet with a nurse educator. My Ob doesn't even want to look at me until 16 weeks!!!

I ran throughout all of my pregnancies, really never stopping until the last few weeks. I ran a 5K during my 3rd pregnancy at 5 mo's in 25 min. I think if you follow the talk test rule and have been a runner prior to pregnancy you can do it. If you have any qualms about it, by all means put it off. I also spotted at 8 weeks with #3, I just took some time off and resumed my activity after a couple weeks with no future problems. GOOD LUCK to all you soon to be moms.

Angie

Hi Melanie. I started running after the birth of my 4th, but I know a girl who ran all through her pregnancies...4 of them also. She has run alot of marathons...none pregnant, so she is used to running long distances. She started gainning alot of weight in her first pregnancy..about 7# a month, and her doctor yelled at her. She said, let me run and I won't gain weight. So he let her run 10 miles, twice a week. I think she did this close to the end of her pregnancies. I could not imagine such a thing. I can barely get my 4 miles done and my 4th is 2 1/2 years old.
