Any other snowshoers?

Gretchen,

Nordic skiing & snowshoeing are considered great x-training for running & cycling so the reverse must be true. I'm quite envious. I don't miss alpine skiing but really miss nordic skiing, and would love to play with the new hi-tec snowshoes.

I'm a wannabe showshoer!! Where do you do it? What kind of shoes? I am an avid hiker and have always thought snowshoeing would be a great winter version...

Hi, Joanna!

I live in Colorado, so there's quite a few locations here. Anywhere there's a hiking trail, ski area, or even a golf course in colder climes, you can go snowshoeing. It's pretty easy to learn how to do, takes five minutes at most.

I have a couple of pairs of shoes, a inexpensive pair of Tubbs, and some new Redfeathers. I like shoes by Redfeather, Atlas, and Crescent Moon the best because they usually have the Hypalon material. It's the same stuff river rafts are made out of. The snow doesn't stick to it and it's real quiet. The other material, the hard plastic, is really noisy and defeats the purpose of being out in the wilderness. It's always sooo quiet with the snow muffling all the sound.

Give it a try. I'm sure you'll love it! :7

RE: Hi, Joanna!

COLORADO! One of my favorite states!! I've done lots of hiking there. Alas, the mountains here are smaller, but equally beautiful. Thanks for the tips. Snowshoes are now my official b'day request!

RE: Hi, Joanna!

Such confidence you have in me! Is it really like running or hiking at a sliding pace? (that is how I've always pictured it)
