Any luck microwaving Steel Cut Oats?

I usually buy Pacific brand. They also have Oat milk - which is also very good with oats but higher in calories.
Have you tried the hazelnut milk (I think it's Pacific as well)? Yummy!

I visited a natural food store that I used to go to more often, and found they had lots of different kinds of non-dairy milks (oat, rice, hemp--some of these taste HORRIBLE, and others great, why is that?--hazelnut).

On my own, I've made both almond and macademia (yummer!). Brazil nuts are also good to use in 'milks,' as they are a good source of selenium.

I have some Hazelnut Milk in my cupboard now but haven't tried it yet. But now I'm looking forward to it!

My update

Well I took the suggestion of preparing it night before and letting it sit in fridge. It used water from the tap. This morning I stirred in some banana creme protein and warmed in the microwave for 1 minute. I also added some dried fruit (a couple of raisins and very little spiced apple). It was ok. I think its the texture I'm having trouble with. It is still grainy and hard. Is that the way steel oats are? I thought it woudl be more consistency of regular oats.

Should I try a different type? Does boiling water help soften the oats? Should I let it sit out all night on the stove instead of in the fridge?

Sorry for so many questions. Thanks for the great responses.

Carmen.

Boiling could improve the texture. I don't know. I'm not sure what yours turned out like because I've never soaked my oats. I've only read about it.

I cook my oats in the crock pot over night on low and it comes out creamy. The texture of steel cut is not as smooth as regular oats. I had to adjust to the different texture.

I would try the boiling water method before trying another brand of oat. I buy bulk steel cut from my local health food store, so I'm not sure what brand mine are.

Steel cut oats definitely have a more chewy texture than rolled oats. I happen to prefer it (I find rolled oats a bit 'slimey' at times). I wouldn't, though, think of it as grainy and hard. That sounds undercooked. (I still recommend boiling the water and putting the oats in the night before and letting them soak overnight. Rolled oats might work with tap water, but IMO, steel cut won't get the best texture that way.)
