Any idea on demolition costs?

Here's a WAY off topic question. Recall I posted my belief that my neighbor was a homicidal lesbian - well she's gone. She and her son, and her SO moved 2 weeks ago after renting for 3 months. 2 Days ago I observed something strange at the house, which I'm now watching for the owner. I went over and discovered the water pipes had burst and ceilings and walls were lying on the floor. It looks to be a total loss. It's a $500,000 house. DH and I are thinking of making the owner an offer. He can take the insurance proceeds to pay off his mortgage. We'd buy the land, demolish the wasted house, and merge up the two lots.

Any idea what it costs to demolish a $500,000 home, pull up a concrete driveway, and abandon a septic system? I'm in the Cleveland, Oh area. Thanks in advance for any input!

I am guessing waste and disposal. You are looking at about 50 grand.
It isn't cheap to do.

Could the local fire department use training? Great way to get rid of a house. Burning it reduces the amount of waste. Contact the Fire Chief.

Great idea. Thanks Dave! I contacted the local building dept and they estimated about $70,000. You're right - it ain't cheap!
