Any IDEA fitness members?

Hi, Collette! CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR CERTIFICATION! I'm certified thru ACE as a group fitness instructor (since 02/97) and I am a member of IDEA as well. In fact, ACE and IDEA began as one organization and then split off from each other.
I like IDEA for many reasons, primarily the publications they send to members that cover research in the areas of group fitness modes, professional standards for the individual practitioner and club systems, examining (and often debunking) fitness fads, frauds and trends, and encouraging dialog about various issues (the obesity epidemic, disorders among fitness professionals, the increasing link between fitness pros and the health care community, the debate about possible licensure of fitness pros, etc.). Also, often in their publications you can take take-home exams and use those for your Continuing Education Credits (CEC's) - makes it very convenient if you don't have the time for a lot of workshops.
Also, IDEA is very active in publishing employment and business opportunities for fitness pros, from individual jobs to actually selling fitness facilities. It also maintains a very thorough calendar of workshops nationwide. It also organizes conferences and summits every year, and is paying increasing attention to the explosive growth of personal trainers. There are also many discount opportunities available thru IDEA, including malpractice and liability insurance for personal trainers - not something to be taken lightly.
Whew! Hope that gives you a tiny clue that I think IDEA would be a very worthy investment for you!

I'm also an ACE certified PT and LWMC, and I joined IDEA.
They really have great publications and a lot of great articles on-line as well. I recommend it wholeheartedly!!
