I've always been drawn to the medical fields, I find it all absolutely fascinating. When I was a kid, I wanted to be a vet, but then realized I couldn't kill or hurt animals, then I decided to be a Dr - dead/hurt people don't bother me. I was pre-med in college, but quit school for personal/family reasons. I thought about being a PA, but really don't want to do that - dunno why - it doesn't appeal to me. I think I long for excitement, I wanted to be a nuerosurgeon - dream big, right? I've briefly thought of going back to school, but I don't want to spend years and years of my life in school. I always did well in school and had no problems, but I just didn't find it interesting (except biology and related subjects) It really just bored me. I think I went because that is what was expected of me, so I did it. Again, that's another story.
For a minute I thought of being a PT, since mine helped me so much after me knee surgeries - but the idea just didn't click with me.
I would loveLOVElove to be a mortician (yeah, I'm odd) but the closest schools are about an hour and a half away. And unfortunately, not really practical for my current situation.
Lately, I've been pondering an EMT/paramedic - but don't even know where to start looking into it. I don't know anyone who is one to ask. All the local ambulances here are city owned, and come out of the fire department, I thought of calling them to ask, but don't want to sound stupid. How does one go about schooling/training to be an EMT?
I'm just beginning to think about this, but any directional pointers would be helpful. I DO know, though, that I'm tired of being a collector - medical/auto - whatever. I want a "real" job. I want to DO something.
