Any dif results between walking lunges and stationary forward lunges?

I am certainly not Cathe but I would think that the walking lunges are somewhat cardio in nature. I am breathless when doing those and not so much with stationary lunges. They both pretty much hit the same muscles I believe. I have also found that I can go heavier with stationary lunges.
Trevor :)

I don't know for sure about the same results but thinking the walking ones might give you quicker results. I think you are using more muscles because you are working harder stabilizing yourself to stay balanced and not fall over.

I also think that walking lunges are more effective because they are more dynamic and bring more muscle into play. They'd be like combining the dip-down part of a forward lunge with the 'bring-the-leg-back-üp"part of a rear lunge, with some added movement. YOu don't really need a lot of room to do them, just enough room to do two in one direction, then turn and start the return trip with the opposite leg that you used for the first go-round.

Hi Rhiannon! They both target the major muscles of the glutes, thighs, and buttocks but hit them in different ways, therefore, recruiting more muscle fibers. In the case of walking lunges, you not only get the main muscles of the legs, you also get the core because your stabilizers are kicking in to keep you balanced. Also, you will feel a cardio effect if done long enough because of the large muscle groups and dynamic movement being performed.

A side note if you want to give this a try: Sometimes on my interval running days (after my warm up)I will do three minutes of running alternated with 90 seconds of walking lunges for a period of 30 minutes (before cooling down).... You WILL feel this!
