Any Dermatologist here? Photo facial questions.

Winter

Cathlete
Hi Ladies,

I have mild redness on my cheeks and side of nose as well as spider viens on my face.

I am on a mission to find out how to get rid of them economically.

I had a consult for a photo facial that seems would work for me but it is $1100 for 5 treatments. I could just do the cheeks and nose but I have freckles...........a ton of them in the summer so I am not sure I can just do the checks. Still that costs $680.

Anyone know of a better solution? Would it help to see a dermatologist?

Thanks,
Winter

I get the IPL facials for the problems you described above. I did the series, and now just need to go back twice a year and get them done. It gets rid of all of those problems, I adore these and they are worth the money to get your skin looking good again.

There isn't any cream that I know of that gets rid of broken capallaries or spider veins that I know of. Some might claim they do, but do not believe it. They need a good "zapping" to go away for good.

To rid yourself of the freckles, the NuDerm line by Obagi contains a very effective skin lightener that over time will lighten them up alot. its worth a trip to a derm to inquire about the program and discuss your options.

Tneah,

How much did IPL cost if you don't mind me asking and how many treatments does it generally take? I've decided to do something about my the few age spots that have suddenly appeared as well as my broken capillaries around my nose.

Is the IPL the same as photo facial?

I have no problems with my freckles. They can stay!!

Was your IPL very expensive?

Thank you!

It was expensive, about 1,200 dollars for 5 facials and yes, they were the IPL's. This particular laser really zaps broken veins and brown spots. But after the initial cost, you need to remember sunscreen of course for prevention, but then only one or two a year.

I love them!:7

I have one more question, is it true once you do something like this that you have to keep your face protected from the sun or the spots will come back?

Winter, I am a NP working in dermatology. We don't do laser in our office, but photofacial rejuvination is basically IPL treatment. It is one of the better treatments available for broken vessels and redness in the face. Although it's expensive, it works for most. Tneah is right though, you want to avoid the sun after having it done. Redness and broken vessels can be caused by sun damage as well as freckling and other brown patches. The best anti-aging cream ever invented was sunblock!!

Guess I should consider this after my cruise in April huh? It's just so hard especially growing up in Texas all my life. I love the sun and the warm weather but I am finally realizing the cost of it and am ready to make the investment. I should probably find some good sunless face tanners as well. Thanks for your quick response.

Ok, I just have to put in a plug for sunscreen & hats! in general here. I am 46. About five years ago I found out I had a melanoma. I was very lucky because my on-top-of-everything GP found it early, and it was very easy to treat. But still, that meant chest x-rays every year for five years, to see if they really had gotten it in time. Kind of spooky considering I have young kids. I know it can be easy to forget the sunscreen -- I use it every day, but many days if it's cloudy or cold, I forget to put it on the kids. If nothing else, if you have fair skin, get yourself in for skin checks on a regular basis! It really is so easy to treat if it's caught early.
