Anti depressants safe for pregnancy?

I did a search in this forum and found a post that stated that there are anti depressants that are safe for pregnancy. However, the post didn't name any in particular. Have any of you taken one while pregnant, and if so, which one? I am taking Effexor and am planning to try for a baby soon. I have two concerns:

1. If I go off Effexor, will I be a total non-functioning mess because of pregnancy hormones, and

2. How harmful would Effexor be to the baby's development?

I plan to ask a physician the above two questions, but I was curious about other people's experiences. Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I haven't been around lately but thought I would chime in with an answer. I am 34 weeks pregnant with twins and have been taking Lexapro the entire time.

I had a very bad case of post partum depression after my second baby so the doctor put me on Lexapro to keep it from happening again. He assured me that it is totally safe for the babies.

I have to admit, this has been a very tough pregnancy for me - I've been hospitalized, had three colds, 2 boughts of the stomach flu and horrible morning sickness. Now I'm at the uncomfortable stage where I can barely walk across the room without becoming winded yet have managed to stay upbeat for the most part. I can definately tell it is because of the Lexapro.

Hi, your response is greatly appreciated. Sorry to hear this pregnancy has been so uncomfortable for you.
I hope all stays well from here on out!
I just read on webmd.com that Lexapro is passed through to breast milk. Did your physician mention this as being a potential problem?

My second baby is eight months old now and I'm just starting to go off 50mg. of Zoloft. I never had depression before but it set in with this last pregnancy at about four months. It was awful. My midwife put me on the Zoloft and she had no concerns and I had not problems. And my little boy seems just fine!
