Some of you may recall that I was invited to a wedding that is "black tie" NO optional. It's in early October. I was having trouble wrapping my brain around the idea that I really should get a long gown, as I can't imagine I'll use it again. I found a gown I LOVED by Nicole Miller, but refused to pay full price for. Then I found it on sale for 40% off, but all the ones in my size were damaged. Even on sale, it was about $360.

Well, it's only July and I still have 3 more months, but I don't want to wait until the last minute. I just found this on the Nordstrom website:

Red is the color I look best in. It's possible that the bust may be a bit snug, but the fabric has spandex in it, so maybe it will conform to my body? I love it and I love the price, but for some reason I haven't ordered it yet. I guess I'm still not thrilled with the idea of spending money on a gown.

Thoughts?

Stunning!

Nancy:

I think the dress is beautiful. With your coloring (from your avatar!) the red will look great.

You have plenty of time--order it, keep looking for a backup, & if it's too snug you can return it.

After the event could you have a seamstress (or do it yourself if your handy with a needle and thread) cut off at slightly above the knees put a hem in it and turn it into a shorter dress? That's what I would do.

Gorgeous!

If I could wear a dress like that I would buy it!

Will we get to see a picture of you in it too!!!! Get it.

It is super classy and yet sexy at the same time. Go for it! Order it in a larger size and have it tailored for you body.

That sassy dress has Nancy written all over it :);)

What Beavs said! ;)

I like Tami's idea of having it cut to cocktail length afterwards.

(But tell us, won't you, what about the shoooooooeeeeesssss....?) Sorry, a little shoe obsessed these days. :p

Tami, that's a great idea. The dress would probably look great in a shorter length. :)

Suzanne, I don't think the shoes are as important with a long gown as they are for your dress. They'll be mostly hidden under my dress. I have a pair of silver sandals I wore to my stepson's wedding that will probably be fine.

Nance, I think it's unanimous -- get the dress! It's so YOU, and it's gorgeous!!! ;) :D

Thanks, Michele. I'm hoping the red isn't too bright or brassy. But there's only one way to know for sure. I sure wish we had a Nordstrom here.

Hey, maybe I should ask my Mom to go look at it for me. She lives about 10 minutes from a Nordstroms, and I trust her taste.
