Have you substituted milk with soy milk when cooking? I'm doing a whole grain bread recipe in my bread maker tonight. I had to use milk and thought of using soy milk instead, but then chickened out. I hate ruining things!
I have never used soy milk to bake with. I don't usually substitute unless I know for sure it will work. Baking is all about chemistry, and soy milk obviously has a very different composition than cow's milk. Most likely, it will come out somewhat different. How different I don't know. However, I haven't really heard anything negative about substituting with soy milk, except that it could brown baked products prematurely. I would be curious to know what would happen. Maybe you could try it someday when you don't care how the bread comes out, just for experimentation!
Happy Baking!

(my favorite hobby next to Cathe workouts...hmmm...seems one requires the other!)
I have been going to try this for a long time but never have. My husband drinks soy milk and I drink nonfat. It seems everytime I think about it, it's when I have to make something to take somewhere so I chicken out! If I ever do I'll let you know how it goes!
I haven't done so lately, but if I use a dairy recipe, I always substitute a non-dairy milk (soy or rice) for dairy milk. I haven't noticed any difference in the results.
I did this last year while nursing my son whose had MSPI and with some recipes it worked, and with others it didn't. It's all about experimenting I guess! Give it a try!

Hi Donna, I know I am a litte late but I figure I will post Anyway I always substituted milk with soy because my husband can't have milk product. I have been doing this since we marry 17 years ago. I use to use baby soy formula until now you can get stuff like Silk Soy, ect. I do alway use Vanila Soy any brand. HTH
