Mt. Charleston Notch Run
This is the race report I sent to friends and family. I'm STILL floating!
Hi!
I am so excited! I signed up for a 4 mile race up to the ski lodge at Mt. Charleston. We drove the course and it was mostly all uphill, but I only remembered the one big hill and was picturing the whole course that way. So last night it felt like I was tossing and turning all night. Apparently I wasn't. C.J. said he was going to sleep on the couch in case Jacob woke up cause, "you need your rest." How sweet! And Jacob was up 4-5 times! We got up at 3:30am. Aaron and Bonnie came over at 4 am to watch the kids. And we were off! We got up the mountain in plenty of time, even helped set up some cones. I was just scared to death for some reason. It wasn't too cold. I was wearing pants and a sweatshirt over my T-shirt.
I got on the bus that takes us down to the starting line and met a very nice lady named Maribelle. She is going to be 80 in September! Also met Wendy from Wisconsin that was down for vacation. We got to the starting line and took one last pee. I stayed way at the back of the pack...that way I get to pass people

) We started running down the only downhill. Then it was up, up, up. The first mile was VERY hard. The elevation (8,000') didn't really bother me, but the uphill sure tired me out! I walked for about 200 yards at 1.5 miles and again for 200 yards at 3.5 miles. Mile 3 felt great. I think it had some flats in it. The last hill to the finish was brutal! But, I crossed smiling for the camera! C.J. had already gotten me a bottle of water. I was on such a high! I was so scared about the race and was just so jazzed that I finished it and finished it strong! I'm still floating! Oh...my time was 50:30 or thereabouts. The winner did it in 26 minutes!!!
Thanks for letting me share! Hope it wasn't too boring
