Amy Bento's APX

I typically only use Cathe for weight lifting (or I do my own thing at the gym). My favorite Cathe workouts are the Gym Styles, Pure Strength and The Pyramids. For total body workouts, I prefer MIS and Muscle Max.

For those of you who have tried Amy Bento's APX, do you think I would like it? What do you like/dislike about it?

I tried this DVD once and it went on the trade list very quickly. The exercises were tough and Amy's personality was great, BUT there were so many equipment changes. With all my pausing I ended up adding about 15 min to the workout. Just too frustrating for me.

I really like this workout. I have found the moves different and I usually have DOMS after doing this workout. I just did the legs section on Sunday and my legs were aching for 3 days.

The only negative is you need a lot of equipment (2 body bars, barbell, dumbells, step with 3 risers on each side and 2 chairs (or 24 risers).
 
Can you sub something else for the body bars? I don't have two chairs but I do have a pull up bar. Is that okay?
 
I have this one and really like it. There are different moves in it. It does require a lot of equipment changes. After I did it a few times it flowed more quickly because I was ready for changes. I Did not have a body bar or that many risers. I used a barbell across two folding chairs at first. Later I used the end of my lat tower. I think it is however you can get in pull ups. If not those, then do pulldowns with tubing if no other equipment. On the abs where she used gliding discs I used a barbell and did rollouts(can be done on a stability ball) and the side to side walking planks I did off of a ball. I am definitely glad I purchased this one. Lots of premixes as well.

I got this workout a couple of months ago and love it. I think it is better for those that have used weights for awhile. Not for beginners. I really enjoyed some new moves. I personally didn't mind the equipment changes, and as Diane Sue said once you know the exercises it does flow well as you know what is coming next. I think the premixes are really good and Amy seems to have amazing energy...Cathe is and always will be my favorite, but changing up exercises (like in APX) is always good for shocking the muscles....:)
 
I'm another fan of this one. I actually LOVE it BECAUSE of the equipment changes.... Working muscles with various equipment can really keep them guessing! Amy actually changes the equipment right on screen with us and after the 3rd time I had to fast forward HER! LOL- I agree that you dont have to use her chin/up method to get results. I liked APX better than any of her cardio workouts personally. I also find its a great one to use as 1 or 2 body parts per day as cathe / tony add on because her exercises are indeed unique.
 
I used my barbell for the body bar segments. I just adjust the weight on the barbell based on the body she is using.
 
Too long, and the premixes are either too short or too long, or not comprehensive enough. Fast equipment changes, ( if you have all the equipment, that is!!!). I have worked with weights for years, and I like both endurance and strength workouts, but this one did nothing for me, nor did I feel it was a benefit to my regimen.

Thanks for your input, guys. Since I already own it, I guess I should at least give it a try. I was tempted to trade it over at VF (since I've had it since it was first released but still haven't even opened it yet). It would be foolish to trade it away before even trying it, don't you think?

I really like Amy, but I find whenever I try any other instructor's weight workouts, I usually end up trading them and going right back to Cathe (and/or the gym).

I've been lurking on this thread myself, because I own this workout but haven't tried it yet. I was planning on trying it next week, so we'll see how it goes!

Oh definitely try it Shelbygirl, you may love it. What one person hates another one can't live without.
