America's 10 healthiest grocery stores

Lucky you on the Super WF opening. :D

I know my local Hannafords has a pretty good size health food section.

I am jealous! I haven't been to a WF since I lived in Monterey, CA, nine years ago. It was the best - I used to get a protein smoothie everytime I went in there. Will you have one for me? :)

But how could they have missed Wegmans??!!!?! :( It's such a cool store and has a TON of produce, a mini-health food store right inside with fresh and frozen sections, plus a whole aisle of herbs supplements, books, body and cleaning products... Not to mention the bulk foods, grains, and recipes. Yikes!

Though I love Wegman's, I do wish we had a TJ or WF! I've heard so many great things about them. I've sent them emails but I guess we're not a target area right now. So sad!

In Chicagoland - we have tons of Whole Foods and Trader Joe's and Super Targets and I frequent all of them. Some Kashi products I can only find at Super Target.

We don't have the other stores around my suburbs. I have heard great things about Wegmans, though!

Actually I have the Health magazine article and they give an honorable mention to Wegmans but said that it was to small to make the list. I feel truly fortunate to have a Whole Foods and Trader Joes right next to each other, . . .and I shop there every week. I was shocked to see Safeway on the list because although the company has made stives to produce a brand of organic products, . . their meat, poultry, and produce section lacks the quality of a Whole Foods. The thing I love about Whole Foods is that even their bakery section is void of artifical anything. I ordered a birthday cake from there and you can immediately tell the difference. Everything down to the icing just tasted, . . .for lack of a better way of explaining it, . . .good for you.

Yeah, I think they were focusing on national chains. Wegman's is more regional. I've heard great things too but have never had the chance to partake.

Another fan of Wegmans here, but the article explains why Wegmans wasn't included (not enough stores). Otherwise, they said Wegmans would give Whole Foods a lot of competition.

The nearest WF or TJ to me is a 1-1/2 hr drive. I just cannot go that far for groceries. The only ones on the list for me are Food Lion and Publix. :( And the Food Lion here is NOT impressive.
There is not even a large farmer's market nearby, just a couple of roadside stands. I keep hoping that something with reliably good produce will open pretty soon.

I didn't even know there were Wegman's outside of western New York and the southern tier of the state. From what I understand, they are the Nordstrom of grocery stores in terms of awesome customer service. For some reason I have never been inside a Wegmans.

Interesting about Food Lion. I specifically go to FL for vegetarian yogurt. I have a Whole Foods, but I can get vegetarian yogurt for 10 cents an ounce at FL and have to pay way more than that at WF.

Wonder if Target has vegetarian yogurt?

Thanks for posting this link. I saw that my usual grocery store, Safeway, is #2. I learned from the article that they have FoodFlex program that you can sign up for that summarizes all of your purchases through your club card and tells you where you are deficient. I thought it might be a wake up call to see how much ice cream I have bought in the last year
