American Idol (spoiler!)

>Have you guys heard about the "vote for the worst idol"
>website??? This is why Bucky is still around.

That's one reason Kevin was around for so long.
But I thought after Kevin left, they latched on to Kelly? Did they change to Bucky, now?

Mandisa's weight may have figured im (and the outfit she wore really accentuated how huge her bottom half is. What gets me is that if I were not even close to being that overweight, my face would not look attractive at all, and she's gorgeous! Just think of what a knockout she'd be if she lost some weight).

But also maybe the song choice, which seemed kind of "strong, independant woman who won't take any guff from a man' which may not appeal to those who vote the most (I'm imagining young teens).

Also, whenever anyone is voted off, the people who were voting for them start give their votes to someone else, so the dynamics are constantly changing.

I do think that, based on this weeks performances, Paris or Bucky or Ace should have left. Based on potential shown from the beginning, Mandisa shouldn't have left.

I don't mind that Chris has a style that he sticks with...that's kind of the point isn't it?? Whenever you go out and buy someone's album it's usually from a certain genre...I mean Kenny Chesney doesn't make a country album one day and then make a rock album the next. Most recording artists stick with one particular style of music, and that's what creates a fan base. There's a reason System of a Down has a different fan base than Josh Groban. So for me to have Chris sing song's that sound "the same" makes perfect sense to me. In my mind that's what makes him genuine.

Sorry...just thought I'd throw that out there...heehee :D :D .

Deni,

I agree completely!!! Little Miss Honky Tonk (Kelly) sings the same tunes every week. Why should we judge versatility?? That makes no sense to me! I would hate if Chris sang something other than what he sings. It seems as if we are all getting mixed messages with this show. It drives me crazy to hear people (including the judges) say that some people have no versatility. Well, duh......music varies, but singers usually stick to what they sing best....

The thing that bothers me about Chris isn't that he sticks to that kinds of music. It's that I have seen a million cover bands that play the same type of music he does (top 40 rock) and all of the guys I have seen sing in these bands are at least as good as him and all sound very similar. Around here (Detroit), guys like him are a dime a dozen.

That is interesting....my sister's dh is very big into music having played (and still does) in cover bands for years. He wishes his band had a singer as good as Chris. Maybe you can send some of those Detroit rockers to Illinois for him. You probably have a bunch of Emimem's too, huh? :)

He does sound like other rockers, but is still pretty distinctive. Everybody sounds like somebody else.

Heehee! No, Eminem's that I have seen. :) Well, walking around looking like him yeah, but not performing. I'm not big into the rap scene though, so they are probably around.

Give me your brother in laws address, I'll send some. We have surplus. Don't get me wrong, I like these types of bands otherwise I wouldn't have seen so many, but I just don't think they are superstar material because that whole type of thing (Creed, Staind, Puddle of Mud, etc) has been done and done. I am sure part of it is that they are trying to sound like that type of singer and they would be more distinctive doing originals. Plus, I think that this kind of music in on the way out. The teenagers are into Death Cab for Cutie, Coheed & Cambria, The Killers, System of the Down, etc.

I am sure though, if you go to Nashville and many other places in the South, you are sure to find 10 Bucky's, Kelly's, etc.

I have to say though that I have yet to see anyone else like Taylor.

Too funny:7 :7 :7 ...Queen a musical genre...heehee!! I honestly have no clue why they chose Queen...it's like they are setting these guys up for failure or something. Like, why did they have country when there's a seperate show just for a "country idol"...not sure what the name of the show is??? And what's more frustrating is that they have these "themed" music nights and then the judges hate everything that they sing...sighting song choice as the problem. Well of course, because you have Mandisa singing country, Bucky singing 50's music, and Kelly singing Stevie Wonder...many of these are bound to be horrendous combinations!!!

I've never understood this whole themed music thing. Let these people sing what they want to sing so that we know what they are into and where their strengths lie. I have no desire to hear Mandisa sing country or to hear Bucky sing 50's music!!!!

Regarding the issue of "covering", if they had original music to sing I think it would be a whole different ball game...and one I would thoroughly enjoy. The only four I think could hold their own in regards to original music would be Chris, Taylor, Elliot, and Katherine. They are the only ones who sound authentic to me. And Taylor's style is by no means new...think Joe Cocker, Michael McDonald, etc. His style is definately nothing new...just much different than anything popular today.

OK...my American Idol rant is over :D :D .
