American Idol...now can we talk?

Is it safe yet? Did everyone watch it? I think we should be able to talk about it now, if you didn't watch it when it came on then.....TOUGH!:)
Lori:)

Hey, I'll talk about it with you! I couldn't make myself watch 2 hours of annoying, off key singing that I couldn't even hear b/c of the audience, so I just tuned into the end. Also, that girl on the red carpet? I wanted to slug her ;)

So, I think Carrie has an amazing voice, but truthfully, I think the soulful twangy country girls are overdone. I was really hoping a rocker would make it and appeal to a whole different audience. Anyway, they will both do great.

Goody! I missed part of it but there were some not so good singers.I always favor women singers over guys...I don't know why. I thought he was gonna win it to tell you the truth.I have never bought a C.D yet but I may buy hers when it comes out.Its possible that I could have her forgot about by then! When they make it this far in the competition both usually end up with a contract, Im sure he will do well for himself.
Lori:)

HEHEHE Yes i think it's safe now :) I was sure Bo would win it and I am pretty sure Bo thought he would too. I like his voice a lot and thought he was better then Carrie. He is however IMO a tad arrogant and cocky. A little to sure of himself. I am betting he was shocked when he didn'y win! I went out with a friend last night so I tivos the show. I just fast forwarded through a lot of it cause frankly I can't sit still that long and some of the show was just annoying anyway. Anyway I am happy for both of them as I am sure they will go far.

I am really happy about the way things turned out. Bo had been my favorite, but I think he just didn't do it for me with a bigger audience and venue. Carrie has alot of talent and potential, I think she is very refreshing, just what the "Idol" should be, IMO. She had some great vocals last night also, until the last song ( which they should never make that poor winner try to sing !)..
Can't wait until next year!

I was really surprised that Bo didn't win. Maybe I should have voted after all? I thought he was a shoe-in. On the Daily Show the other night they showed a "film clip" of an Iraqi woman voting for the first time. She went into the voting room, took the voting card and wrote "Bo Bice" across the ballot. It was really funny.

I can't believe they made Carrie sing moments after she won. That was so heartless. Her composure was nothing less than astounding. I don't care for her type of music, but she's definitely got what it takes. (At some point, I'm sure they'll replace those awful caps on her teeth).

I was thinking last night about all those finalists who probably gave up a year of their lives just to rehearse and film all those song sequences, and probably didn't get paid. They must have been required to sign a contract committing to being a part of the show through to the end if they were one of the finalists. They probably had to give up their day jobs just so AI could fill up that 2-hr. show, etc.

Mikayla was quite annoying! She needs to really calm down and grow up. Seems like she was trying too hard to be in the limelight and I think most found her very annoying! That is exactly the type of person I would not get along with very well at all!!!
I really miss Constantine though. Sorry, he was really my favorite. I am disappointed that Bo did not win, but doesn't matter anyhow has his career will still be on just like Clay's. I hear more about Clay then Ruben Studdard anyhow. So it doesn't always matter.
I am happy for Carrie though. I think she will go far in her career, but seems to me that the judges already knew who was going to win as Randy Jackson seemed to shift his view from Bo to Carrie last night when he didn't before, notice how it was always Bo for him and then all of a sudden now it is Carrie so he pretty much gave me the answer as to who would win early on as I caught on to this.

Charlotte-
You mean Clay Aikens didn't win AI? I just started watching a few weeks ago, so I didn't know. I always assumed he had won. That's neat.

I was actually pretty surprised that Carrie won. I thought Bo was so much better all around. Carrie's got a great voice, but she's a little too "cookie cutter" IMHO. She really doesn't have much stage presence, but Bo just owned the stage and the audience.

Oh well. Kind of reminds me of figure skating. }(

They've both launched their careers and that's terrific. :)

I missed it. I tuned in to the last five minutes and I saw them announce the winner. I was rooting for Bo. I liked him all along. I am sure both will go far. Carrie was very gracious, which was really sweet. I missed the red carpet part, was it Mikaela someone wanted to punch out?

Nancy,

The top 10 who go on tour get paid. They have contracts with 19MGT. Scott Savol, who is from Cleveland, was interviewed on a radio station here in Ohio, and he was asked about that issue. He said they are definitely "taken care of", and he doesn't have to worry about not having a music career. He also said they all have record deals in the works, as well, to follow after they are done touring.

We were switching back and forth because we were more interested in watching "Lost" last night but we caught the part when they were highlighting those 2 guys who became friends during tryouts. The one guy was a huge Baywatch fan and sang one of David Hasselhoff's songs for the judges. They brought the 2 guys back in the audience last night and we all about bust a gut when David Hasselhoff came strolling out. Funniest thing all night.

We must have voted for Bo 100 times since the voting began at the beginning of the season. I just love him, but it doesn't matter ~ he'll go on to a GREAT future!

No, Nancy ~ Clay Aiken did not win AI a couple of years ago. Rueben did, and you DO hear a lot more of Clay. Here's what my almost 10 year old said about the two: "Well, Clay is in all of my 'girl' magazines like Bop and Tiger Beat. The only magazine that Rueben is in is Weight Watchers Magazine!" (I think I'm going to have my hands full with her when she gets to be a teen but I laughed anyway!)

Oh, and one more thing ~ What was Jessica thinking???? Did she actually think she looked good in the leather vest that would have fit my 5 year old?? Granted, I would have looked horrible in it too, but I sure wouldn't have worn it on Primetime TV!!!

I didn't plan to watch until the last 10 minutes, when they announced the winner, but I flipped over during commercials on "Lost."

From what I saw, they put on 30 minutes of good, watchable programming and stretched it out to 2 hours by rehashing the worst singers. Why? And the audience giving a standing ovation to the chick who can't sing a note on key and sang the star spangled banner? Some people do NOT deserve 15 minutes of fame! The whole concept of "instant fame" of AI can grate on the nerves of talented singers who have struggled to make it as far as they can, without adding insult to injury by giving time to the really aweful singers as well.

I was rooting for Bo, but I think he'll do just fine. I mean, look at Clay AIken vs. Ruben. I've heard Clay on the radio, but I've only seen Ruben on some "worst music video" show on VH1 for some sappy, stupid song where he keeps singing "I'm sorry..." I think whoever is writiing Ruben's sucky songs is the same person who wrote the two sucky "original songs" that the last 2 contestants had to sing on the final night.

What was Jessica thinking???? Did
>she actually think she looked good in the leather vest that
>would have fit my 5 year old?? Granted, I would have looked
>horrible in it too, but I sure wouldn't have worn it on
>Primetime TV!!!
Was she the blond with the gut hanging out over her low-cut pants? I was thinking the same thing when I saw her. Just because you're young doesn't mean you can wear ANYTHING, or that you have a body that looks good in it.

Maybe it was Mikayla on the red carpet. I don't know, but she was SO annoying. Her hair looked like the razor blade had a little too much fun with it.

You know, I don't think any of these idol winners have had success like Kelly Clarkson. I actually like a bunch of her songs. I don't think winning idol guarantees an awesome future. Like Clay, I think Bo will go of and do his THANG ;)

Has anyone noticed?

All of the American Idols (and most of the contestants) have very "ready-for-stadom"-sounding names. Almost like they chose them as stage names (but they didn't).

Carrie Underwood
Bo Bice
Fantasia Barrino (cool!)
Kelly Clarkson (a very all-American name)
Clay Aiken (a good country name!)
Ruben Studdard

There are no: Joe Smith's, no Herman Franklin's, no Wilber Post's, no Cindy Johnson's, no Franny Thornhickle's.

Kathryn,

I was thinking the same thing about the girl in the leather vest, but I didn't want to be the one to bring it up. LOL! I noticed her belly was too big and I was embarrassed for her. People should wear what looks best on them and what brings out their best features. Young or not.

Charlotte~~

I loved Carrie from the tryouts. I really thought Bo cinched it two weeks ago with his acapella performance. I got choked up when Ryan announced Carrie's name...I felt like my daughter had won. I loved it when she sang Heart's "Alone". Carrie can "rock", too!
