AM I STUCK WITH CATHE FOREVER?

Cathlete
Hello,
I have been doing Cathe workouts for about a year now. I recently done a rotation with her new intensity series which was 8 weeks. I have now become really burnt out of Cathe video's (sorry cathe) I decided to go with a new rotation using The Firm's newest 9 video's. After the first Firm workout... I now have a problem... they are too easy for me! For me, all cathe workouts are really tough and now switching to something else is like a beginner. Anyone else have this problem? I love cathe , but I thought by switching to something else would be really refreshing and new and I have always liked the Firm, but I don't feel like I get that great of a workout, at least not from these newest tapes. As I said, I love Cathe and I love her workouts. I haven't found another workout more intense or fun as cathe, BUT... Am I stuck with Cathe forever?

Michelle;-)

Michelle,

I guess I wouldn't call it being "stuck" with Cathe, but you have improved your stamina and endurance to a point where you need an intense and challenging workout to feel as if you are getting a good workout.

Since you are burned out by doing exclusively Cathe's workouts, you may want to try mixing in a few of her videos each week with some other, less intense videos each week. Or, you could try some outdoor activities, such as running and biking if your local weather permits it.

Good luck.

I only use Cathe to cross train and I do my weight and strength workouts with her. I run 3 times a week. This is my primary cardio...an excellent fat burner and cardio conditioner. I started running because I wanted to get the most bang for my buck. I've been running for 2 years now and have seen it do great things with my body. From time to time, I have days where I just don't have it in me to do a full run. On these days, I do a run/walk. I run from one land mark to the next and then walk from one to the next. Then run, walk, so on. I love this workout. It gives me a great all over bottom half workout. You'd think running and walking use the same muscles, but they don't. I really feel this in my butt the next day. I don't do this on a regular basis because I am worried I would lose my cardio conditioning I have made with running. But I do use it for some variety and a "break" from time to time. You'd be suprised what a great workout you can get from this.

Michelle,
Have you tried older FIRMS??
I IMO don't get a workout at all with the newer FIRMS, even a little, Cathe has spoiled me, I have really good endurance now!

I also like running like Kim.. it is definitely comparable to Cathe intensity, and spring is coming,so you could run outdoors, as a change of pace.
Also, taking a couple of classes at the gym once and a while is fun too! I have a Billy Blanks-certified tae bo studio in my town, and I enjoy going there on occasion, because the workout is good!

I feel your pain with burnout though, I had it on FIRMS, and since I went Cathe, I haven't done one in quite a while..

What about Mindy Mylrea? I tried her Interval Express workout and that looked fun (I borrowed it from a fitness friend)

I consider it being blessed with Cathe forever! You are obviously very fit, that is great! What videos of Cathe's are you currently doing? I am a total Catheite, I sold all my other videos, but I hear that Mindy Mylrea (something like that) is very intense and she has a Boot Camp video, if you like that style. How about doing a Cathe step video you haven't done in a long time? Or try CTX or PS but go heavy and slow the reps down or go lighter and speed them up. Do half of one video and half of another to make it interesting. When I feel burned out I try something really tough - making sure that I do it once a week for about 4 weeks straight, like adding the intervals from CTX's Step Intervals to the end of Imax, or doing CTX's Power Circuit and the circuits from Body Max back to back. Or all of MIC without stopping. This gives me a goal to achieve so I look forward to doing the workout again to see if I've improved. Those are just some suggestions. If the thought of doing a Cathe video just doesn't jive with you, take a class at a gym, run around the neighborhood, make up your own intervals and just jump around the house, etc. But if you don't look forward to doing something, you're probably not going to do it. Here's hoping you find something that inspires you!

You can get a good workout with Charlene Pricketts HiLo tapes, and give your legs a break. I'd do Cathe step 6 days a week if I could, but my poor old gams need to take a break, and I pay attention because I want to still be stepping in 12 years when I'm 65! YIKES!!!!

Just Do It! :7

Michelle - Variety is the spice of life! While I'll never get sick of Cathe, I can understand why you want to do something different. Have you considered Powerstrike? I love the millenium 1&2 workouts (didn't care for #3---felt too slow & easy). Also, Gin Miller's Intense Moves is a good workout for an advanced exerciser. If you want to challenge your brain and body, get some of Christi Taylor's workouts (I've found them less intense than Cathe, but your body might benefit from mixing intensity levels). Some of the other folks suggested running---you could do some non-video workouts (treadmill, running, stationary bike, rowing machine, elliptical trainer, nordic track, etc). If you want to invest in a machine, there's always stuff for sale in the paper (people who buy a piece of equipment but never use it). There's lots of options. Suzanne :)

I kept all my FIRMS. They are in a big shoe box in my closet. Only three of them are outside : Vol.1 (which I love and is my If I were trapped on a remote island videotape), Cardio Burn ( I did this once last month and it actually challenged me...then again I'm not really a full Cathe Amazon )and Super Cardio. I stopped buying the Firms after the Super cardio/ Super sculpt set. I hear that Boot Camp 3-in -1 mix sells for 45-80 on EBAY...hmmm, maybe I should get rid of it!!!
Cathe makes the best chaptered DVDs...she kind of makes it hard to get anything else. If you check out other stuff you just won't appreciate it anymore. The only DVD that's not Cathe that I want is that Yoga for weightloss DVD with Suzanne Deason which has the workout in 4 different level modifications. That seems like a smart deal. I'm not getting DVDs chaptered: Warm-up, cardio ,floorwork and cooldown. That's a video if you ask me.

I agree all my firm tapes are collecting dust. I just can't get beyond the implants and tons of make up... YUCK.... and the old ones while good are sooooooo old fashioned.

I really should sell them huh... i've got like 15 of em and havent used them in like 2 years.

HI Michelle,
I enjoyed reading your post.I feel the same way.I love Cathe but I am on my third week of the Intesity series Body Blast and I am loosing interest.I have even begin to think my body is becoming accustomed to Cathe style workouts.I have increased my weight, raised my step level & I have found the Intensities not as challenging as earlier efforts such as Circuit Max.I recently did Mindy's Strength Express & Interval Express.I was gasping for air and perspiring like crazy.I also did Brand New Butt & More by Jannis S.I am sure everyone will think I am crazy but I have found this tape to be the most challenging -It is balancing work with light weights. It is awesome.I also recommend doing a variety of tapes & getting outdoors.Mountainbiking is a blast.Try everything.Thank you for breaking the silence.
