I just went to the bathroom and I have a very strong feeling that I just lost my mucus plug...I forget what exactly this means though. I know it's not an "alarm" to go to the hospital but it does mean something...Anyone remember???

Oh I don't remember Wendy. How sad is that? I remember the day my water broke and I wiped it was muscusy and pink (sorry if that is TMI). I had my son that same day.

Thanks for tryin'! lol Sounds like you lost your mucus plug and your water simultaneously!

Maybe one of the other ladies will remember...I tried looking it up online quickly but haven't found an answer as of yet....

OHHH it might mean you're close!
I lost mine just as we were about to leave for the hospital to have DD! I was in early labor all day, and that evening Dr said to come in at midnight. At 11:30pm as we were heading out the door I went to the bathroom one last time and had a bloody mucousy show! It made DH really put the pedal to the metal :) and she was born at 6:43AM.

Why don't you call your OB and tell them, and see what they say? I suppose they'll say to wait for contractions and or water breaking...
I think it CAN happen way in advance and just means that your cervix is maybe starting to open...and I think it also means no more sex from now on (not sure if that's an issue) for risk of infection. But do call and see what they say!

Thanks for the info Lisa. I think you are right...I think it's a sign that labor is on it's way but not necessarily IMMEDIATE. I called a friend who has 2 kids. She said to pay attention to my aches and pains (for actual contractions) and if anything more comes out, etc. The plug wasn't bloody so she said it's possible that it didn't all come out yet so keep an eye for the rest of it to come out possibly as well...

How does a Mother's Day baby sound to you all? :+

Who knows what will happen but I'm definately on the alert now!

Would you like for me to do a labor dance for you as well as Imani? I'll gladly kick up my heels for you, even though I'm sure I won't be able to get very far off the ground.

Okay, here I go! Boy my coworkers are going to think I flipped my lid. Labor vibes coming your way. That would be awesome to have your baby on Mother's Day. What a very nice present!
 
Hmmm- i was 40 weeks, 2 days- i lost a big pink snotty blob on a Monday morning and went into actual labor on late Tuesday night. I have heard of it taking longer for labor to start; i was already overdue! Kristan
 
Hey Wendy!! That's exciting! I never saw my mucous plug; I have no idea when it came out. Must have been during delivery, I suspect.

From what I've read about the plug, it can come out on the same day as delivery, but also quite a while ahead of time. Apparently, it can come out very early in the pregnancy and regenerate itself. It can also come out in gradual bits over a number of days or even weeks. Not very helpful information, huh?

Mother's Day labour vibes are coming your way! Who would have thought one could get so excited about mucuous? LOL!

I don't want to discourage you, but I lost my mucus plug almost a month before I had my first. Please don't be mad at me! The other two times, I didn't lose until labor! Please don't shoot the messanger!

Wendy--I've been watching that little ticker for a while now. You are in the final stretch and I think that time moves incredibly slowly in the final month of pregnancy.

I have 5 children and I've almost lost my mind during that final month, because I am just ready to have that baby.

As far as the mucous plug, it was different with every child. A couple of times, I did not see it at all. Once it was grotesquely obvious, but the baby was still 2 weeks away.

You are right that it means that labor is coming, but is not imminent.

I lost my mucous plug 5 hours before I had my baby, but I'd already been having contractions all night and the previous day. When you lose it, you'll know because mine was bigger than a golf ball and all bloody and snotty looking. It's hard to miss! That said, it's not a reason to go to the hospital as others have stated. Your contractions (or water breaking) will tell you when to go.

Seems everyone here who noticed the loss of thier plug say it was blood tinged and rather large. What I had was pretty small and an offwhite to yellowish color-no blood. A friend of mine thinks it was only a part of it and the rest will follow at some point...OR...there is always the possibility that I am completely wrong about the whole thing! LOL

Oh well, no worries...this baby will make his entrance when he is good and ready no matter what! :+
