Always overweight: need help with a better body

I have never been not-heavy. I am 19 and I have come to the realization that the only time I ever lose weight or do any good for my body is when I exercise. After having this epiphany, I want to hop on the fitness bandwagon really fast, but I want to do it with caution.

I did a protein-sparing modified fast in September and now am watching what I eat and have lost about 22lbs. Right now I'm 223lbs. and 5'7.5. I would still like to lose 70-100lbs. I do pretty well with exercise despite being so overweight. I have a gym membership on top of a treadmill and home gym at home and I have just been following cathe's basic step, but I have the step, medicine ball, stability ball, cords, free weights, etc. I'm trying to look into other videos/fittv recordings and make a plan to really see results that will keep me motivated. That was what worked so well with the diet aspect of protein-sparing modified fast.

I have always been told to settle. That "for me" this was good: that I should be happy if I can fit into a 12, and certainly having a good, toned, muscular body has been out of the question. Finally I am realizing that it isn't impossible, and that in fact I'm small-med. frame and should be able to be smaller. I can remember always having a stomach, so I'm not sure how to approach that. I'm sure that won't be an issue until all the weight is gone.

I am all gung-ho. I'm willing to put forth as much time as need be. I turn 20 in September and I will do anything to see a good difference in these 9 months. I'm thinking of going back on psmf. Can you guys help me with the exercise aspect and help me hold tight to the hope that I can be as fit as anyone.

First off, welcome! You're in the right place:) Second, I have no idea what a protein-sparing modified fast is. Could you explain that one?

I am going to defer this one to more qualified persons on the forum.. but I did want to congratulate you on your wt loss accomplishments thus far and give you a huge WAY TO GO on your realization that wt comes off safely and remains off safely ONLY w/ proper excercise & nutrition. I was 40 before I stopped doing all the crazy fads. I think you will do very well w/ whatever plan you set... I know you'll get lots of help here.
Hope to see you posting more ??? & results!

I went to a diet doctor and the protein-sparing modified fast is pretty much a fast that allows high-quality protein to keep you from losing muscle. You can do it at-home, but mine was shakes. This is not the same as medi-fast or opti-fast. My doctor monitored me weekly with ekgs, blood work, etc. You can do it pretty much as long as you need, but the less overweight, it's not as good of an option. Many people told me "Oprah gained back weight", etc, but I believe that weight can be gained back from ANY reduction plan, so I have made it a point not to. Like I said, I'm thinking of doing it again, because though I'm good at maintaining, I have a hard time losing. I like that solid line drawn: what you can and cannot eat.
