Already dreading the holiday food.

I've been feeling pretty good these last few months but I'm already worried about all of that "dirty" holiday food. Just thinking about it makes me feel bloated. It starts mid November for me with my daughter's birthday, and then Thanksgiving. (At least Turkey day is at my house and I can control what goes into the food.) Next is my birthday, FIL's birthday and then Christmas. Christmas Eve at my aunt's. Christmas dinner at my mother's. Christmas leftovers or my mother's cooking for the rest of our stay. We spend about 4 days there. Then we go home to another Christmas dinner at my in-laws! Nobody eats clean and it turns into a free-for-all. Eat in moderation you say? Yeah, right. Once I start on something I just don't stop until I'm stuffed. I'm so much better off in my house in an almost clean environment.

Why do the holidays have to be about food? Oh, I am not looking forward to them at all. I know this sounds selfish but I hope I get the flu. (Well, not really, but I doubt anyone in my family wants to eat grilled chicken and steamed veggies for Christmas.)

I know there is nothing any of you can do. I just wanted to vent.

Just reading your post makes me want to unbutton my pants, . . . that is how I always feel after those big meals. I refuse to wear anything with buttons but I'm so bad I'll skip the whole meal just to pig out on the dessert table. :(

OMG!!! I was thinkng the SAME thing the other day! Actually I have to go see my aunt in fresno and she's SOOO not a healthy person:( (ironically she used to be a professional Body Builder in her younger days) and I am TOTALLY dreading the crappy food she's going to have around. Ugh....I know how ya feel!!!

I was thinking this too. Then I thought about Halloween Reese's PB cups and decided it couldn't get here fast enough :p:eek:;) I'm also looking forward to nut brittle, and swirl fudge at Christmas. I allow 1 piece a day, and try to drop off something else I normally eat, to keep cals in check. I focus on maintaining, not losing thru the Holidays. We normally don't go to many parties, so it just leaves us with Thanksgiving day, the day after Thanksgiving (we get a tree, go out for dinner, and drink Bailey's in the evening), and Christmas day and Christmas Eve. Only 4 days out of 60ish that we eat really big meals, and I normally don't eat that much more, there is only room for so much. So, its not the end of the world. It'll be ok!!! I promise.

Wow Sandra, that was a really good blog post! And that means a lot coming from me, cuz' I do not get into blogs at all. I really needed to hear what you said though. Think I'm going to print that out!

I'm total opposite of you all. I love love love Thanksgiving and Christmas because it means spending time with family we dont see that often and I look so forward to my grandma's cooking. I hardly ever get to eat it. So once a year is okay in my book! LOL

Thanks veggiegirl and Liann, glad this was helpful. For anyone else who might read this later, you can go to my blog and either type in "holidays" in the search box or click on the "holidays" in the tag cloud and it will bring it up.

I have to agree. Life is too short to be getting worked up about the holidays. Maybe I'm a snarky ol' crab (well actually, I am), but after watching loved ones struggle through illnesses and battle for their lives (and some of them won't be there for next Christmas), I just can't get worked up about such trivial stuff. Staple your mouth shut if you have to, but go to these events and ENJOY time with your families, be glad to be alive, and be glad you are fortunate enough to have to worry about over abundance. :)
