Alli...

Just curious to see if anyone has tried either their pill or their diet regimen. I bought the starter set and wanted to get some advice on it.

So far in 3 days I lost 1 lb. (which is huge since I haven't been able to make that scale move in some time):)and haven't had any "bowel" differences that some have spoke of. The diet menu is really good, my family actually isn't scared to sit and eat anymore, afraid of what other healthy concoction I might have come up with. And it's clean, and within a targeted calorie range based on the individual.

I did maybe 4 years ago when it was the prescription version. Lost 17lbs in the 1st month. But it was like $100 a month, even with insurance, so it became a budget buster. I only did it for a month, and eventually gained the weight back. I think I was so scared of eating anything greasy (oily discharge??? ewww) that I just didn't so it. Soon as I stopped taking it, fell back into bad habits. Which of course, was my own lack of willpower, not the medication. Whether or not results can be seen and held long term, I don't know. I've just cleaned up my diet on my own and seen results. Slower, but still results, and I feel better about it. However, if it works for you, I would say stick with it. I don't think I did it long enough to really get the full effect or pros/cons.

I was wondering if anyone around here would try it. I was curious what would happen once you stopped taking it. Nan, you answered that question. Maintainance has always been my problem anyway. Now, if someone could invent a maintainance pill....

IMO, Alli and Xenical (which are essentially the same thing) are behavior modification drugs (the behavior being bad eating habits). In other words, they have such nasty side effects you have to follow the diet or suffer the consequences. So you either follow a healthy eating plan that's low in fat or you stop taking it. Because no one can put up with the side effects. That being said, you must take into account that "low fat diets" usually don't work. It's not just fat that's the culprit. It's total calories in vs total calories out that makes a difference. To me it makes more sense to follow a life style change- eat healthy foods in the right amounts and exercise to get rid of extra pounds. There's no other way around it- no quick fixes so to speak. If there were, obesity wouldn't be the issue that it is in this country.

I saw a Dr talk about this yesterday and he wanted to make sure that all who take this understand that it works on fat intake only. If you are suffering with weight challenges because of sugar (all forms including HFCS etc...) that Alli does NOTHING to you. So you can eat LF sugar filled junk all day long and have ZERO side-effects from Alli and continue to gain weight. The drug is designed to help obese people alter fat intake habits.... thats it. Once you stop taking it if you go back to a heavy fat diet the results will be the same as always. He recommends it to his patients that are fat addicts and health is endangered because of it.... He said if he had a Sugar addict that this is not the appropriate product... Its just wasting money.
We all know that many LF and FF versions of food make up for flavor loss by adding sugar-
Just an FYI

I found this on youtube....it is silly-and disturbing.

My humble opinion is this: If it works for you great, losing weight and keeping it off is tough period. I never have had much faith in supplements, but again, if it works for you, then go for it!

Edit: I just read the reviews on the youtube ad, don't read if you get easily offended, some people are really crude.
