My original Lift, Move & Restore series and the upcoming Lift, Move & Restore 2:ELEVATED! series both focus on the functional training exercises that keep us fit and able!

There are some very important physical abilities that we want to ensure we can continue to do as we age. One of these is the ability to get ourselves up off of the floor. Functional moves like squats, lunges, planks, and pushups all help to strengthen the muscles needed to pull our body weight up and lift ourselves back to a standing position.

Unfortunately, as we age joints stiffen, aches and pains set in, and too many individuals stop doing these important functional movements altogether because they’re not as comfortable as they once were. I’m sure we all remember the “Help! I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” commercials that were on TV in the past, and the reality is that we don’t want to lose the ability to help ourselves, especially if we’ve fallen. This is one of the reasons why our functional training is so important.

This video highlights some simpler versions of the functional exercises that help to preserve our ability to pick ourselves up. Even if you are still doing the more advanced versions of the exercises in this video, it’s a great reminder of what these types of movements are accomplishing for us in the big picture.
