I was wondering if anyone can tell me where they purchased thier barbells for the cathe tapes. I have one I borrowed from my brother in law but it is really long and akward. And it takes so long to remove the gadget to get the weight off to either increase or decrease. I was wondering if I should purchase something less akward and time consuming and where for a good price. THanx for your advice

I think if you go back to the Cathe home page there is a link about equipment where Cathe lists other links to websites that sell fitness equipment.

I bought my barbell at Target as part of a starter weight lifting set. I wish I had shopped around because it came in two pieces and I had to stick them together. It's fine for the lighter weights that I'm lifting now (about 30# max), but I wonder how heavy I can pack on the plates.

Hope that helps. You know, I also seem to remember Cathe posting a link on the "Ask Cathe" forum about four or five weeks back with a link to a website that sells the barbells she uses in some of her tapes. Of course, I forget the name of the company.

I purchased the Troy Lite system (which is used on CTX) from Fitness First and love it. The bar is 5 pounds and has rubber tips that do not scratch floors. It is about 4 feet long which works well for home workouts too. The weight plates are also rubberized so no scratching there either. It comes with enough to load to 45 pounds but you can add on with any weights you purchase locally.

The set cost $49.95 a year ago. Don't know what it is now though. Shipping depends on where you live. Here in New Orleans, Louisiana it came to $15.67.

Phone number is 800 421-1791

Ask about spring lock clips to make changing weights easier.

The set comes with something you have to squeeze to release and it is a pain. Spring locks are quick release things.

If you want to save money, try ordering just the bar from Fitness First.

You can then go to your local sporting goods store and get all your plates there, probably a bit cheaper if you get the ugly cast iron ones. Holes come in two sizes. You do not want the Olympic ones which have bigger holes. You want the ones with the smaller holes because that will fit the Troy barbell. Don't know what to call this size but remember the holes are about one inch in diameter.

Hope this is helpful.
